Re: Deck 3 - Clay Pigeons

As they waited for their appetizer, several people looked in the restaurant. Many were just curious. A couple were seated by Stephen on the far side of the dining room. One unusual guest, wearing a hooded jacket gave a package to Stephen.  He seemed mildly perturbed to have the individual in the restaurant and discreetly took him back to the kitchen.

A minute or two later Stephen emerged with a steaming plate of stuffed mushrooms that he placed down with two small plates on Miles and Clare's table. "Your entries are coming along well, may I get you anything else while you wait?"

Re: Deck 3 - Clay Pigeons

As was his habit, as Miles sat there he kept a discreet eye on the surroundings, the people, and anything untoward, his security training never really took a day off. He noticed the hooded figure's interaction with the server and how they disappeared into the kitchen. Still, he could hardly ask the man what that was all about, especially considering his rather brusque treatment of the fellow's earlier curiousity about them.

Then the mushrooms arrived, they looked delicious. Clare's eyes lit up.

"Your entries are coming along well, may I get you anything else while you wait?"

"No, we're fine. Say........I know it's probably normally frowned upon with management but we are customers afterall and the goal is to please the customer.....why don't you take one of these and sample it?"

It was quite obvious he meant the mushrooms. Mile's smile was there but again it had a certain edge to it.

Re: Deck 3 - Clay Pigeons

Stephen looked at Miles oddly for such a request. "It certainly is not customary, but you should know that I have approved the preparation and presentation of every dish we serve. I guarantee they contain only the finest and freshest ingredients available. The recipes are each prepared in the traditional method of chefs from all over the rim. Would you prefer a different appetizer?"

Re: Deck 3 - Clay Pigeons

Clare frowned and reached for a mushroom.

"Oh for cryin' out loud, you worry too much," she addressed Miles then looked up at Stephen, "This appetizer is fine, just what I wanted."

She popped the tidbit into her mouth and chewed then swallowed.

"Delicious!" she pronounced with a smile.

"Fine," grumped Miles as he poured himself some more wine.

Re: Deck 3 - Clay Pigeons

"I am so pleased you enjoyed it. Your entree should be of similar excellent quality of course. Those should be ready momentarily. I will go check on the kitchen for you."

Stephen turned and made his way back towards the kitchen, briefly checking in on a couple other tables on his way.

Re: Deck 3 - Clay Pigeons

Clare ate a few more mushrooms, enjoying them immensely and finally Miles begrudgingly reached for one and popped it in his mouth. As they waited, they looked about at the other diners, just for something to do.

Re: Deck 3 - Clay Pigeons

The person in the hood came back out with Stephen from the kitchen. He said something that could not be made out to which Stephen shook his head and rather insistently gestured towards the door. The person complied and made his way out the front door.

Moments later Stephen arrived with two sizzling Prime Rib plates. He placed the first down in front of Clare and then before Miles. The aroma coming off them was divine for those that enjoyed the carnivorous epicurean arts. "I hope these will be to your liking. Is there anything else you might like?"

Re: Deck 3 - Clay Pigeons

Again that fellow with the hood, this time he emerged out of the kitchen, Miles thought that a big peculiar. The prime ribs arrived then and they not only looked delicious, the aroma was excellent also. Clare reached for the salt shaker but Miles looked up to Steven.

"Do you give kitchen tours? I couldn't help but notice that fellow going in and out and he certainly doesn't look like staff," he asked.

Re: Deck 3 - Clay Pigeons

Stephen gave a sudden flash of emotion that could be read as either fright or anger. The reaction quickly flowed away as his practiced business smile returned to his face.

"Merely making a delivery. Just a courier, pay him no mind. I would be happy to provide you with a tour of the kitchen and an opportunity to meet our chef if you like."

Stephen was obviously hoping Miles didn't continue on the line of questioning.

Stephen continued to stare at the two for a moment. "I hope you enjoy your meal. It is the finest beef to be found in this quadrant of the Rim."

Re: Deck 3 - Clay Pigeons

Stephen cleared the table and brought Miles the bill. "I hope you enjoyed your meal and will visit us again. Any one who respects the heroes of the Rim is welcome at Clay Pigeons."

Re: Deck 3 - Clay Pigeons

OOC: My apologies on this one, obviously I lost track of it.

Miles wasn't sure he believed the man's answer about that kitchen 'guest' but it was not worth an incident just in case he was wrong. He knew he'd become fairly paranoid as of late given his responsibility for the girl.

The man assured him the meat was of the finest quality. Miles nodded.

"I imagine it is."

Clare had already begun eating so he joined her then. The meal was as the man had told them, top notch meat superbly roasted just to the right degree of doneness, medium rare that is. Both of them had no trouble finishing all of it and washed it down too with the fine wine.

Stephen cleared the table and brought Miles the bill. "I hope you enjoyed your meal and will visit us again. Any one who respects the heroes of the Rim is welcome at Clay Pigeons."

"Oh we probably will do just that," Miles nodded.

Clare looked up, "Heroes of the Rim? I like that. Sounds.....heroic. And we don't just respect them, we loved them."

Re: Deck 3 - Clay Pigeons

Stephen smiled at Clare's enthusiasm. "And if you are interested, we are having a gathering tonight of folks on the station that appreciate the ways things used to be on the Rim. 7:00pm, invited guests only. It would be an honor to have you two join us."

Re: Deck 3 - Clay Pigeons

Miles stood up, having left the necessary credits on the table for the meal and a generous tip also.

"Absolutely not. Ever hear the old saying 'don't dwell in the past'?" he answered the waiter.

"But thank you, the meal was excellent, goodnight," he glanced at Clare, "Come on, Caroline."

Clare waited til Miles turned his back to head toward the restaurant exit, then smiled at Stephen, mouthing the words, <Yes, I will be there>
She'd figure out a way.

"Bye!" she waved as she followed Miles.

Re: Deck 3 - Clay Pigeons

Stephen winced at the stiff reprimand by Miles but softened as the young woman responded favorably. He waved to her as they passed out of the restaurant and into the corridor beyond. There were plans to be made...
