Topic: Bit of a popularity hike...

Our daily requests for the past two months:

Yep. That's in thousands. Now, worth noting, every page load involves a number of requests - the page, the images, the javascript/stylesheets, but it's a lot.

In terms of data transferred, it comes out to this:

Quite a few gigabytes a day, huh?

Re: Bit of a popularity hike...

That's really interesting and cool to have. Why the spikes, I wonder? It started at c.125k requests/8gb and has returned to about that the first few days this month, but there's that considerable period from around 23rd March to about 20th April where it was much higher, like three times higher? And then those two mountainous peaks around the 23rd and 26th April. How can we use this data, as in, what do the trends show us? I'm not so good at reading graphs.

But what I lack in training I make up for in enthusiasm. :-)

Re: Bit of a popularity hike...

From those graphs, I don't know - smooth lines are what I can understand, and matching things to events. Unexplained spikes, well, I can't explain 'em tongue

Re: Bit of a popularity hike...

We need other data to correlate it to, e.g. size of member base or number of players on LOA, for instance, to find trends that can be understood.

...otherwise we can just be optimistic about numbers and have absolutely no idea what they might be able to tell us.

Re: Bit of a popularity hike...

By the way if anyone can supply me data that matches one of the two axes of either graph (it needs to have the same domain or range - I have few guarantees about how useful identical ranges can be though, depends entirely on what the data is) then I can run some analyses for you.

Cuz...you know...I'm not doing anything else with my math degree.  tongue

The inexorable march of our popularity goes ever onwards... (and with it, our bills)

Re: Bit of a popularity hike...

My question: With the site being as "dead" as its been for the past month or so, how is that so high?

And what can we do about the bills...or priciness?

Re: Bit of a popularity hike...

How much if any of this is due to folks working on AJJE integration and other technical adjustments from when the old URL was locking people out? Certainly something is amiss if we are shifting around that much data on a daily basis. Does the entire site, archives included get accessed every time someone hits the page?

Re: Bit of a popularity hike...

Seems a fair chunk of it was search engine bots getting stuck going in circles in some places. I think I've fixed that, so it should go down to a more accurate number now.

Re: Bit of a popularity hike...

Good lord! We are a black hole for search engines! I like it....
