Mike brought up the planetary information base and scanned for local hotels that offered Guild discounts.  This info would hopefully be useful to the Captain.  He also scanned for local pawn shops and fishing areas.  Both would hopefully give him something to do to pass the time.

There was only one hotel that offered discounts; a rather pleasant three-star affair called The Pine Great Western, part of a wider chain.

Only one pawn shop was available in the starport itself and there were eight fishing areas, although you needed to buy a permit first.

"Is it as awful as it sounds?" Aldia said as she looked over the shoulder of the helsman at information.

"It's probably got cow tipping and tractor derbies."

"One three star hotel offering a discount, Captain", Mike said as he read the brief description.  "The Pine Great Western, part of a chain.  That's the best one we can claim for a discount."  He glanced at the Pawn Shop entry and noted the location, as it related to the hotel location.  He then looked up where he could go to buy a fishing permit, and followed this up by reading then entries on the eight fishing areas.  "Gonna be a quiet visit, boss."

"Dr. Justice", came the voice of Beeching, dripping with more contempt than usual, "You appear to be a highly intelligent woman with a strong appreciation of the amount of force actually needed to push a bovine over. So I am amazed that you would make such an ignorant remark.

Sunita snorted.

"Beeching, watch it", she said firmly. However, the AI was feeling triumphant.

"I watch an awful lot of things. What else do you want me to watch?"

Aldia was rather irritated at the old AI, and as her brain was still recovering from a bullet rattling about in it. Worked up the best response she could.

"I suppose the Intelligence part of Artificial Intelligence wasn't so much of a focus when they coded your archaic ass Beeching. Or maybe the only test subject they had was a 12 year old suffering from a lower than average intelligence."

She then paused and grabbed some painkillers form her pocket, which she swallowed.

"Or you'd understand what a stereotype is. As, I use them all the time"

-Aldia

"Yes..." Beeching said, "I do know that about you. You have been on this ship for two years after all".

Sunita saw Aldia swallow some painkillers.

"Can I have a couple of those as well please", she said, "My neck is still a bit sore from that crash exit a couple of days ago..."

Rasputin ignored the argument between Aldia and their stick up it's virtual ass AI and spoke to the helmsman.

Mike grinned at the Engineer and said, "Now that's more like it."  He turned back to the computer and began to investigate the port for the best rated bars, and perhaps some with "adult" entertainment.  "Other than having hootch, is there anything specific you're looking for in a watering hole?"  He began entering data and searching when that last statement hit him, and he turned back to Rasputin with a quizzical look on his face.  "Land for potatoes?". he asked.

Re: Alycidon - Bridge

There weren't many bars in the town, but there were a lot of 'public houses', which Mike knew from his trips around this sector were places that served alcohol in a more 'cosy' setting and often did food. Sunita had often taken the ship crew out for a pub lunch and almost inevitably ate something called 'fish and chips'.

- GM

Re: Alycidon - Bridge

"Of bars and their like, I am sad to say there are few to report.  However, there are a number of little public houses offering a food menu along with various libations", Mike reported as he looked at the information.  It seemed that this planet was more laid back than many of the cosmopolitan planet ports he had visited in the past.  He smiled despite himself.

Re: Alycidon - Bridge

The ships proximity alert beeped and the camera which checked boarders to the airlock whirred to live. Sending out an alert to the bridge. On the bridge, Mike's computer screen showed a scarred woman waving at the Camera, a girl about Kimberley's age and an Adorable Australian Cattle Dog

Sunita turned to look at the camera.

"Don't remember who the older lady is, although she was certainly at the dinner where we lost Samara...", she said, "But the younger is most definitely Donna Gordon".

On the camera, Donna moved over to a panel, flipped it open and pressed a button. At that point, the peal of Westminster Chimes played over the ship's speakers.

"Right, let's get her in there. Aldia, you have the conn. Mike, Lena, you're with me".

Re: Alycidon - Bridge

The Bridge speaker opened up with Mike's voice from the airlock,

"Yo Rasputin, this is Mike.  We had a little dust-up with the decontamination unit just now, and we think it might have a gremlin at work.  The system warned of a Class C Biohazard on the new additions aboard and we sprayed 'em down, but then the system recorded the hazard had shifted to one of the others, so Lena hit 'em with the full decon whammy.  They're pretty pissed, but that seems to have done the job."

OOC: Ok, a bit confused. Because Mike's telling Rasputin that the decontamination process just had to go for a second cycle. But the threads telling me Beeching had to shut it down. Please Advise GM or SL

As Rasputin left the bridge, Beeching spoke.

"I am running an internal diagnostic right now to determine what went wrong", he said, "I believe that the decontamination system was a latter addition and not part of my original construction, so I am not at fault".

"Typical Beeching" Aldia started. "Making excuses for the ships's flaws."

She gave a half wave to Rasputin as she was leaving and continued to make herself comfortable.

****TIMELINE CUT****

With the ship now settled at the starport on the planet Didcot, Mike worked feverishly to update the ship's logs so that he could engage in some R&R with a clear conscience.  The first order of business was to go ashore and check out the chow.  Things always seemed to taste better to him when not mingled with the distinctive but subtle taste of recycled O2.  "Maybe a cheese omelette", he muttered to himself as he typed.
