Topic: Simulation Cup

Hi everyone!

So you may or may not be aware of this, but every year Ongoing Worlds hosts the Tournament of Simulations.

Some changes have occurred this year and the old ToS is now being run as the Simulation Cup - and it is CURRENTLY accepting applications! (follow the link to see how to enter your sim)

Submissions are due by December 22nd, so don't delay!

Also, full disclosure: I'm one of the judges for the Simulation Cup; however, I won't be judging any Phoenix sims and I won't be judging any sims competing against ours. I won't be sharing any details regarding my part in judging nor the criteria on which sims will be judged; however, if any information is being made public I will certainly keep you informed.

I have already submitted Fighter Ops to this and am looking at Kvant as well.

Re: Simulation Cup

Could we just submit every sim here?

Re: Simulation Cup

If you look at the submission process, that would be quite cumbersome (since it's not so much the sim being submitted as it is a handful of posts). Also it's really up to the SL/GM to submit the sim themselves. Also I wouldn't want to be tasked with finding the perfect bunch of posts to submit for every sim, maybe for my own sims which I know well enough.

But that being said, there's nothing stopping any SL/GM who thinks their sim is worth submitting from doing so.

As long as it's not a *requirement* that the SL or GM be the one to nominate, I'm submitting these:

As I read it, it really falls on the SL/GM to submit their own sim (but I don't make the rules and I don't monitor them, so how I'm reading it isn't terribly relevant).

You are of course welcome to submit all of your own sims though Ash, please be sure you follow the submission instructions here so as to complete your entry.  smile

Re: Simulation Cup

Alright confirmation - Charles has let me know that a whole thread is acceptable (even at 15 pages apparently). So you could submit as much as a whole thread if you like. Not that you should necessarily do this, but that's certainly a fair maximum by their standards. You could submit something smaller (such as Ash's suggestion of specific pages in threads) which may help you refine what material they are specifically looking at, which of course can have its own advantages.

So a whole thread is a fair maximum. Just realize that whatever sample you're sending them, keep in mind that providing a link to the material you want them to view is probably the best way to go about providing your sample (as the judge might not be very receptive to having to search our site for the appropriate information).

Re: Simulation Cup

I am all in favor of dropping Greenleaf into this. And no, the bomb going off has nothing to do with this competition... but it is good timing.

I am good with the thread Ash posted above. I am a bit concerned about all of us submitting little bits all over versus one contact for the club, but however it works best.

Re: Simulation Cup

I'm not sure what precisely the contact info will be used for, mostly everything will be passed off to the judges who will receive a few of these sims. I imagine the more sims we submit the more different judges will be looking at our sims. We may have as many judges looking at as many sims as we submit so it may be useful to have different contacts.

Re: Simulation Cup

I'm also submitting Kvant and A Kingdom for A Stage.

Re: Simulation Cup

I'm with Kevin; I think the GC could be 'the host or host's representative' and submit to Charles or whoever the sims put forward in this thread so there's one contact for the club rather than have the chaos of anyone submitting anything individually.

I'd also put forward the Jericho: http://www.phoenix-rp.com/viewtopic.php?id=29&p=6

Wasn't sure that scene was written in 2012 earlier, but I've checked and it is. :-)

Re: Simulation Cup

My two cents - I don't think there's any chaos with individual submissions. As I say, none of the sims will be grouped together, they're getting dispersed to various judges so they won't end up together. But whatever which way, I think the most important thing is that they get submitted.

Re: Simulation Cup

I'm not sure I'll have time to put together anything for Zombies, Odyssey, or Mass Effect. So if anyone wants to submit something from any of those sims, feel free.

Re: Simulation Cup

So I think we've submitted nine sims in total. Do we know how many others might be entered? How many have entered in previous years, and how many prizes are there? And will all our sims be against each other in the "Board" category, or is it done by genre, or what? Just trying to get a picture of how it all works.

In answer to those questions, the Simulation Cup isn't quite the same thing as the Tournament of Simulations, so I don't know how it will go.

Here's a listing of previous winners:

By the way, in total they had received 27 entries so we sit at 33% of all entries.  big_smile

Also I'd like to let everyone know that the judging is already underway.  smile

We took 55.56% of the win.  big_smile

Of course I'm not counting the E-mail division because we don't do PbEM. Within Message Boards we rock.  tongue
