Re: Most Active Sims

I quite like how this will encourage posting in some of our more active sims through a spirit of healthy competition.

I remain wary overall of the terminology "sim strength" and "strongest sims", though, as it implies the sims which are running along at slower posting rates to suit their players are somehow deficient.

Re: Most Active Sims

Any suggestions for an alternative terminology?

Re: Most Active Sims

How about "most active" sims? I think it's fair to say activity and posting rates are synonymous and so the expectation on which sims will be "most active" will be the ones with the highest SSR's.

Sounds good.

Re: Most Active Sims

I agree. 'Most active sims' does sound better. Or rather, more neutral.

Re: Most Active Sims

I'm also not sure about "Winner" being used here - it feels to me like it conveys the wrong message and promotes a "First!" type of mentality. Why not just use the "Most Active" term as a replacement?

Re: Most Active Sims

No, I read them and agree with them. Posts 2-6 were discussing not using the "strongest" terminology. In addition I would like to extend that change to replace the "winners" terminology.

Permission to speak Freely.

I like the term winner.  Life is a competition.  Competition breeds the need to grow and get stronger.  It pushes us to want our sims to be better.  I want to see Stargate up there several times.

Re: Most Active Sims

But the sim with the most posts isn't necessarily the sim with the best posts. Fastest doesn't mean strongest or winner, is what we're saying. There could be a sim where all the players prefer to only post once a week rather than a couple of times a day as it fits around their RL schedule, or because they put loads of prep into those posts, for example researching the game world's background, the terminology, dates of canon events, where canon characters were etc. etc. which all makes for a really winful sim.

The main reason I see for us having 'Sim Strength Ratios' is to show up sims where posting has dropped to almost nothing, or where players are leaving. A sim somewhere between the fastest and the slowest can be perfectly strong if it's doing what its meant to be doing, which is providing a fun and active RPE for its players. It's not weak or losing just because there's another sim running along at a faster pace, maybe too fast for some players to be able to play there if they have demanding jobs, family constraints, or other RL obligations.

Sorry, you're quite right. I'd meant to include the term "winners" as one of the things I'm wary of for suggesting that other successful sims have 'lost', but I failed to refer to that bit explicitly. Thanks for highlighting it properly.

Re: Most Active Sims

Osprey: Yes, indeed. To be fair to other sims, though, generally the first few months of a new sim you get all sorts of posting frenzy. Would have AW75 continued to kick butt? Hopefully we'll know someday. smile

Bezerker: No need to ask for permission, speak freely as much as you wish! This is general sim discussion, after all.

Ash: No problem, perhaps I was being a bit too literal with the initial suggestions.

SGB-2 retains its title this month.

Re: Most Active Sims

Well, I hope the spirit of AW75 is with MI:DS.

Looking foreward to having some real fun with this. A more video gamey sort of feel I think is forming with this.

Re: Most Active Sims

It's not so much The Dark Cometh as The Dark Cameth, Saweth and Conquerth. With an amazing 931 posts in one month, this is the first sim in Phoenix's history to hit a SSR of over 100.

Even if my player count is under by two, it would still clock a 93.

Re: Most Active Sims

Wickedly awesome SL's, GM's, and well, the players themselves. I blame Raven and Brandon. They make playing TDC über fun! Lol Put that in your pipe and smoke it! wink They have drug me out if my Firefly comfort zone and helped me grow, as a role-player. Two of my favorite men! smile

Re: Most Active Sims
