Re: 2014 Awards

With Deb agreeing to be the Awards and Rewards Officer, she will be the chair of the committee. Silent, Mischa, Kevin, and Brandon have expressed interest in helping also, so I believe that is out awards committee. That's four on the committee with a chair.

I'm turning things over to her now! smile

Re: 2014 Awards

Yay! And we need to open up nominations real soon too.

What do people think about a chatroom awards ceremony aka Academy Awards?

Re: 2014 Awards

That would be nice, I think. Although there is of course the issue with players on this site being from very different parts of the world, which would make attending this live event more difficult.

Re: 2014 Awards

True, but I've gotten up at 5 am to do this kind of thing before, and am happy to again. Even in the same region getting everyone on the same day and time is almost impossible. Just pick what seems most available to everyone.

Re: 2014 Awards

Okay, so this is certainly an option. I think we should pick a set date first, and discuss any other issues. This seems more like an issue to decide on when other things have been handled.

Re: 2014 Awards

Indeed. We need categories and nominations first.
The usual:
Sim of the Year
Player of the Year
GM of the Year
SL of the Year

I think Misty selects the Friend of Phoenix award.
Anything else we want?

Re: 2014 Awards

Possibly a Character of the Year? The Player of the Year would be chosen on overall duties/work/help, whereas the Character of the Year focuses on a specific character. Would that be something?

Re: 2014 Awards

The Character of the Year is an awesome idea. Like, thumb up, +1, retweet, all these things.

Re: 2014 Awards

I love character of the year! I'll leave adding that to this year up to the committee.  And also player of the year, that sounds about like what Brandon mentioned with Phoenixier of the month. I love both ideas!

Re: 2014 Awards

Great ideas.

Re: 2014 Awards

Okay guys, here we go.

Happy to arrange and host an awards ceremony at a convenient date and time to most players. (see below for suggested dates). Love the idea. I shall wear a designer dress and will need a comedy sidekick to co host and make me look pretty. Volunteers welcome.

Categories:

Sim of the Year
Player of the Year
GM of the Year
SL of the Year
Character of the Year

Friend of Phoenix (chosen by GC)

In the Awards System we also list:
Special GC Award.
"This is an award given out by the GC at his or her sole discretion, to recognize special achievements by a member in contributions to Phoenix and its community. Any member can nominate someone for a GC award, or otherwise bring the contribution to the GCs attention, but the GC has final say in distributing such awards."

Any have any others they feel strongly about? What about some love for the admin roles people do? Admin of the Year?

PLEASE NOTE - Player of the Year should include nominations of any GMs running sims or campaigns, as well as players in sims... we all come here to play! GMs are players too.  tongue

Nominations:

I will open some threads for nominations etc.
Players may nominate up to 3 players per award.
Nominations to open Monday 23rd February, and close Monday 9th March.
Committees will consider nominations Tuesday 10th March - Tuesday 17th March.

Awards Ceremony some time over weekend of Friday 20th - Sat 21st March?

If players sitting on awards committees are nominated for an award the chair person will excuse them from discussion and voting on that particular award if they wish to be considered. With 4 committee members apart from myself it should be possible to hold robust discussions even if a player or two are excluded on this basis.

Committee discussions will be held using real time forum if possible. I will liaise with committee members to organise this.

ANOTHER NOTE -Following the awards the system will be reviewed to include Player of the Month as an ongoing award, with structures in place to support this.

I hope this all sounds reasonable!

Happy to discuss amendments if required.

Deborah
Awards Officer

Re: 2014 Awards

Sounds like a brilliant plan Deborah. I am happy to be plucky comic relief for the awards ceremony. Although I insist Misty wear something shimmery and slinky for her GC presentation.

Good time frame. It all seems very reasonable.

Re: 2014 Awards

That seems good to me as well. I think we should encourage (but not obligate) people to give in one or two sentences their motivation for nominating a player/sim character. Also, when they nominate a character, they should not forget to mention in which sim that character plays.

Sounds good! I'll more than likely be helping at the boys school Friday the 20th, so would personally suggest the 21st! wink

The 21st it is - a Saturday is better for most people I would think.

Re: 2014 Awards

Agreed. Although there is a chance that I might have to go to a fair that day to represent my company. In that case I would only be able to attend the live event in the evening (local Dutch time). As soon as I know more, I will inform you of this, of course.

Re: 2014 Awards

Yep, that sounds good to me.

Re: 2014 Awards

I think the event will only need to be short, maybe an hour for the awards and then a celebration for an hour?

How about 10pm GMT on the 21st? That would be... I think... 4pm in Alabama, 2pm in San Diego, 11pm in Holland and Italy, and 11am in New Zealand?

Re: 2014 Awards

That timing is fine for me. Could even back it up a couple hours if that works better.

10 pm GMT works out fine for me as well. I'll definitely be back from the work thing by then, should I have to go.
