Re: Vacancies Listing

Could it be a closed thread, so posts to it are only uploaded by someone (eg you) with moderator rights? Keep it tidy.

Re: Vacancies Listing

I dont see why not. But I'm waiting on guidelines from silent at this point. And keeping tidy I prefer. Which is why I proposed group folders for threads within sims to clean it up a bit. I'll do my best ash.

Re: Vacancies Listing

Can we see about updating this? Also, something like this might be useful in the new members forum. With Sim summaries and with a link on who to ask

Re: Vacancies Listing

Sim summaries are listed under each sim in the main page, I don't think we need to duplicate them in a thread. This would be useful in the new members forum. We can post a thread and link back to this page. The SLs should be listed in each sim as a moderator (as well as other places, such as in sigs and on the sim listing under Management). But maybe some instruction on where to find that information would be useful.

Re: Vacancies Listing

Posted a thread with links (and created a SL/ASL/GM listing, since that was previously encompassed in the administration listing and is no longer represented there).

This may be better information stored on the wiki, to be honest, where anyone can update it as needed.

Re: Vacancies Listing

Yes, but creating the links to the SL's profile would be easier for new members to email/pm the person they would like to about joining there sim.

Admins have full edit rights over the first post.

The moderator names have links on the main page for each sim. Are you looking for something more?

Re: Vacancies Listing

Actually, yes... Wouldn't it be easier for new members and guests to pm/email who they need if they are interested in a sim by having: Jason Andersen up under the vacancy listing.

Re: Vacancies Listing

Yes, you are correct, it would. While it would be easier, they could just look at the sim they are interested on the main page and use the link there, or post in the sim's OOC area. Having the direct links saves them a click or two.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but I'm concerned about keeping such links up to date. With so many other things to do on the site, it would be one more thing that would need updating whenever something changed.

And having an out of date link would be more harmful than helpful.

Re: Vacancies Listing

Two things:

Then why have a vacancy listing and a separate sim summary to begin with? They can find what they need on the main page and ask in the OCC if there are position available.

And how often does the leadership of a sim change? That makes no sense to me... Most of them would stay up to date for years.

The point is to make our site easier to navigate for those that are interested in joining.

Re: Vacancies Listing

I wanted to point out that the first post on this thread was very out of date and that I think that we've come a VERY long ways in the 4+ years since this thread was created that we should probably start a new way of record-keeping for this thread.

The key problem I see is this: if someone wants to update their sim's vacancies they can't do it themselves (because the post with the vacancies is not their own...unless you're Ash or an Admin), so they have to go bother an Admin or Ash to change the post to reflect the changes they're trying to create.

We could make a public page that anyone can access and edit with the wiki. We've had the Wiki for some time now which has been an excellent resource. It's a pretty easy thing to setup a new page there that other people can go on and change.

*****

Initially I thought maybe I'd just leave it at that and see if people were interested in moving this to the Wiki instead to make it easier for people to change their vacancies, but instead I've decided to go ahead and create a Sim Vacancies page and get the ball rolling.  big_smile

The sim vacancies page on the wiki can be found here: http://phoenixrp.wikidot.com/sim-vacancies

If people like it, perhaps we can get someone to change the Vacancies link in the menu at the top to point at the vacancies page on the wiki instead?

---Notes on Page---

1. I've put in the upcoming Matrix sim on there to fiddle with the collapse function, but now that the page is pretty well done I've decided to leave it up since the sim is ready to launch. (If this upsets anyone though I'd be happy to take it down until it does get the green light)

2. The collapse function is pretty awesome I've discovered, all except for the fact that it blends RIGHT IN with all the sim names when they link to a page dedicated to the sim! For the moment to make the vacancies NOT blend in with the sims I've made the sim names double-sized. If anyone has any ideas on how to improve the look I'm all ears! (also see #3 for my suggested solution)

3. (more on #2) I have tried to do indenting instead for the vacancies but other than putting the vacancies as a quote (which uglies up the page a lot with horizontal rectangles up and down the whole page) I have been unsuccessful in getting the vacancies to indent. If we could get the collapsible vacancies indented it'd avoid the problem of the vacancies blending in, look cleaner, and I think be more agreeable. This is what I'd REALLY like to see, but for now at least it's not a page full of horizontal rectangles and it's not as difficult to navigate as it was when I started.

4. Any SL's that want to add your vacancies to the page, FEEL FREE!!!  big_smile

Update: discovered that I can make the link to the page within the collapse function (the collapse function was disabling other code and such so I never thought to put the links in there). So now I'm going through all the sims and changing everything to make it even easier to look at.  smile

Ah, nice.

I'll certainly use this.  smile

Re: Vacancies Listing

Personally, I still think a listing is needed actually on-site.

Re: Vacancies Listing

My concern is we've never had something that the SL's can easily update themselves. I'm in favor of anything that lets the SL's update their own sims pretty easily and without having to go through someone else.

We COULD theoretically have the editing done off-site and have the link go to an on-site page (not a thread) that automatically retrieves the data and populates fields while still under the main site. But if the menu points at a page, no matter where the page is, it's going to be the easiest thing to find either way and I think that matters more than where the page itself is. But if we could have all of that AND have it on this website, I agree, that'd be most ideal.

Whatever we do, I'd still encourage people to update the wiki anyways since it's an accessible page too and it couldn't hurt to have more info there as well.  smile

Re: Vacancies Listing

Since Jason Andersen still hasn't reported in yet, I am now officially looking for a new GM for the Odyssey. A very exciting sim and we are in the middle of a daring rescue. Right now I'm GM'ing the sim myself, but since I'm also the SL and playing a character on the sim, that situation isn't ideal. So if anybody wants to GM this awesome sim, or knows someone who might do so, please let met know.

Bumping Silent's question.

Still me running it. Technically it did belong to Ash

Re: Vacancies Listing

I was its first Sim Leader and its initial co-GM with Robert, but in terms of ownership I'm happy it being with you now, brother.

Re: Vacancies Listing

I think that's our precedent, really. That if a SL leaves, they retain their intellectual property rights over originating the thing but everyone involved in it retains there intellectual property rights over the sim as it continues.

Re: Vacancies Listing

Any Sl's or Gm's have anything they'd like added to their games?

Re: Vacancies Listing

Well, The Longest Journey is still looking for new players and you can still basically choose whichever character and type of character you want to be.

And Odyssey is still looking for a GM. I am currently functioning as its GM and although I am greatly enjoying doing so, I am Also the sims SL and play one of the main characters, so it is not an ideal situation.

Re: Vacancies Listing

Miskatonic University, that fun little Edwardian horror sim waaaay down at the bottom of the roster, really wants more players. The intrepid members of the Amethyst Alliance have just set foot on the Devil's Island to investigate the sighting of a mysterious flying creature. An ominously dark storm is bearing down on them. Blood and insanity await! Join the Fun!

Re: Vacancies Listing

I would remind everyone about PBEM2.com; a great place to advertise.

Covert-81, my proposed 1980s spy sim, is looking for players on both sides of the Cold War.
