Topic: Overview of this area

There are a number of uses for this area (this may develop/change but currently is):

1. To share information and ideas between GMs as to plot and sim ideas etc, eg Silent's excellent thread regarding sources of inspiration.

  • Anyone can post to this, though I'd imagine it'll largely be used by GMs.

2. To provide a list of important NPCs/locations/events that might impact individual plots on sims, eg 'The Big Four' - security companies in the 'Verse, as described by Silent in another thread.

  • Again, anyone can post here although again I'd have thought it would be mainly GMs providing this info

3. The Cortex - a 'real time' thread (not posted yet) to provide information/act as a plot device for all players within the genre, as well as GMs. Posts will be in character and provide waves, news reports, Alliance announcements etc etc as required by plot.

  • This would be information posted by the Area GM, or by other GMs where they've discussed plot arcs with the Area GM - so GMs won't need to clear every single post they make to the Cortex, as this would be slow and time consuming

Does that make sense?

Re: Overview of this area

I think I especially like the Cortex idea - plot hooks being placed by the Area GM which sim GMs (and perhaps multiple sim GMs) can take up and use.

One thing that would be useful is a list of ship's current locations. So if, say, the Umbra and the Odyssey were both on Three Hills, their crews might cross paths. Indeed, their GMs might cross plots deliberately. I think that all adds to the verisimilitude of the wider 'Verse as a living RPE.

Re: Overview of this area

I was thinking of starting a Cortex File on any NPCs I make up and posting them here for everyone. Would people like that?

Re: Overview of this area

That would be absolutely ideal. I'd like us to have a database of noteworthy NPCs, like we had in the old country.

Re: Overview of this area

Besides all of the great RP posts we lost, I also lost a whole writeup that I did here on Jane and Singer Corps.  sad

Re: Overview of this area

Excellent idea, Amanda. How about I open a thread specifically for this - perhaps called Cortex Records or something similar, so it is just for NPC files and people can post directly to it, or browse it without being sidetracked by other posts?

Re: Overview of this area

That sounds good Deb. The Cortex record should be sorted by planet I think, if possible.

Re: Overview of this area

Ya that is a great idea then we can start "connecting" everyone (even if it is just npcs to start at least)

Re: Overview of this area

Or just create pages on the wiki, and add links to the initial post on the forums.  cool

Re: Overview of this area

Good idea about the wiki. Though having it all here also makes some sense.

What would people prefer?

Re: Overview of this area

Both. And a separate thread here called Cortex Records, organised by planet would be the best way of doing this side of things.

And Jason, when you feel up to it, I'd love to read a re-post of your write-up of Jane and Singer Corps.

Re: Overview of this area

I have a summary on the wiki, but nothing close to the detailed history I had posted before:

Re: Overview of this area

As per information being discussed in the Stargate GM Forum, I thought I'd raise this notion (and now more suitably posted in the right sort of area):

How about we have an active list of criminals and their offenses? Might help a certain security firm better assess situations if a list of the Alliance Most Wanted were compiled.  big_smile  Wanted: Dead or Alive and Rewards might be handy things to post as well.

Furthermore, the non-publicized Blue Sun's Most Wanted might be a handy tool or a hindrance (for some who would prefer their character's talents to remain unseen for a time), so I'm not sure if that would be such a great idea. It might do to incorporate the "gifted" into the criminal list if they have bounties...

Re: Overview of this area

I think that's a great idea Robert, especially for those people who play characters who are wanted (as you say, at least publicly wanted).

Re: Overview of this area

I love the idea. We should have it posted and then have a sticky link in the security office on Greenleaf.

Re: Overview of this area

I love that idea, Robert.

My thinking regarding this whole "Cortex and GM Info" forum in general is that we need to reorganise it along the following lines:

We keep this thread for people to submit suggestions or, better yet, open a new thread for that purpose. Then th moderator (i.e. Deborah) would periodically post new closed threads which she could update in response to suggestions. That way we have one 'messy' thread for suggestions, and then several well-kept resource threads for reference. (I know as per a suggestion in the "NPC listing" thread we're using the wiki for reference too, but I see no harm in having it well maintained and easily accessible here as well)

You mean like how I kept The Witcher and D'ni sims organized? There were more closed threads in The Witcher than in D'ni but nevertheless I do the exact same thing.  big_smile

Re: Overview of this area

Not sure if the NPC thread should be closed. It needs to be easy to add new content without forcing the moderator to do a lot of moving stuff around. Maybe other threads, but I for one would want to have my post in the NPC thread stay mine for ease of editing/adding additional detail or history/events as they happen to the character.

Re: Overview of this area

Perhaps we could have a thread like that, then, and another closed one with moderator summaries for those of us who want an organised list in a single post?

Re: Overview of this area

Sure, that would work. But who would maintain that summary list?

Re: Overview of this area

Ah, I could maintain it but I see your point that people might want to retain ability to edit info. I like the idea of it being editable.

Re: Overview of this area

How about putting it on the Wiki?

Silent

Re: Overview of this area

Well, we could do both of those things, too. Have a copy on the wiki for reference and a 'closed' list here for reference, maintained by the moderator, in addition to a 'live' thread for ongoing community contributions.

Re: Overview of this area

Sounds do-able.

On the subject of the Wiki, I made an account some weeks ago and submitted a request to join the site, but have not had a reply or been made a member. Is it possible to become a member so I can do stuff on the Wiki?
