His look of self-assurance faltered for a moment, and he looked down to his midrift. No other being in the 'Verse could do that to him.

"What're you saying?" he asked.

Kris smiled, her gaze fixed on window shopping as she walked, but fully aware of Alex's glance at his torso.

"We're all getting older, darling. But I'm sure you take plenty of exercise, all things considered."

Even though things between them were no longer... intimate, she certainly appreciated that he remained an attractive man, but enough people told him that.

He was now looking at her again as they walked, well, alternating looks between her and the path ahead.

"Hm," he said, musingly. Then suddenly cheerful, "Ooh, look, shiny," he said, pointing out a great Lucky 38 Casino purse being sold by a vendor operating out of a cart selling Sport Town themed merchandise.

"Very", Kris agreed. "You should absolutely buy me that, considering the month's accounts are nicely settled."

She stopped at the vendor's cart, expectantly.

Re: Sport Town - Deck 5

The woman working the cart recognized the two of them as locals to the Skyplex, and not just tourists or visitors. She gave Alex a broad smile. "Very good taste. A fine quality bag. For you I make you good bargain. Say 40 credits. Good merchandise."

-DemiGM

Re: Sport Town - Deck 5

OOC: Just to be a purist, the Serenity RPG establishes 1 credit as c.$25, so 40 credits would be 1000 dollars, rather a lot for a purse being sold by a street vendor. ;-) I've always struggled with the idea that 1 credit = $25, though. I'm going to assume you were imagining 1 credit = $1, and she's asking a still exhorbitant $40 for the purse. :-)

"Thank you, ma'am," he replied easily, taking out his designer wallet from his inside jacket pocket and handing over the cash. He was alert as he did so, though, that no one in the crowd could snatch his wallet.

Re: Sport Town - Deck 5

OOC: Ah, but this is almost an official Lucy 38 designer purse, with real cubic zirconium jewels. A shiny gift for any lady. Even better if it displays to the knowledgeable on looker the exorbitant price you would have paid to get your little lady waht she wants. A fine buy at that.

No seriously, I forgot the credit equivalent and was thinking about $10/$400. You can haggle with coordinate vendors, especially those outside a Casino.  tongue

Re: Sport Town - Deck 5

OOC: For $40, Alex was never going to haggle, it makes him look good to be free with money, like you say. But for $1,000 think he might have walked away in offended disgust. ;-p There's no way he'd be taken for a fool!

Kris took the bag and tucked it neatly under her arm, with a perfunctory nod of thanks to the vendor.

"Shall we?", she asked Alex, indicating that they might continue on their way, without offering him any immediate thanks.

Alex gestured with his own arm that she should precede him, then fell into step beside her.

"So, what new constraints did Chow stipulate this time?" he asked. "Did he stay overnight or come back earlier this afternoon? I saw him skulking around," he said.

"He spent the evening at the Mission Temple, I believe, and he may have stayed the night there - heaven knows we pay him well enough - but he certainly didn't spend the night at Phantasm He'd scare the customers away, bless him."

Chow was a large man, in every way - height, width and personality.

"He's recommended we cut the medical cover for the casual staff - said it was far too generous and that no one else does it. Oh, and he queried your bill at the outfitters."

"We're the only establishment on deck five with equitable terms and conditions for casual and permanent staff. Really, you're too soft."

She glanced over at him briefly.

"Though you're terribly well dressed."

"I hope you told him the company line?" Alex asked, impertinently.

The company line stated, 'At Phantasm, we believe both in investing in our staff, and in doing our bit for the Greenleaf pharmaceutical trade.' It went on, but that was the soundbite he'd have expected her to quote verbatim.

"I told him, I showed him the press cuttings, I pointed out the smiling faces of the girls in the back room. He maintains we need to cut the staff costs, and he's advising us to do it there".

"I've got to get to deck two. You want to come watch my nails dry, or have you got something better to do?"

She paused at the entrance to the transit corridor, her shiny new bag under her arm.

---TIMELINE CUT---

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s281/deborahleighton/Alexander-Skarsgard.jpg

Disappointed at not really getting into the games at the casino, having been called away, Alex walked through Deck 5 back towards Phantasm to find out who Ginger was flapping about now. A tall man, Alex walked with a slight stoop, but his demeanour wasn't a self-conscious one, especially not today.

He gave off agitated vibes.

Jane exited the lift of Deck 5 and smiled a cruel little smile. In the day she could be a prim and proper upstanding citizen of Greenleaf Skyplex, but in the night she prowled the lower decks looking for easy prey. Tonight was no different, the deck was hopping with prospective targets on a little shore leave from their freighters.

Jane walked slowly, her eyes scanning the crowd as she walked, letting eyes settle on her as she moved past them. She was trying to decide where to go first...

Seeing a large amount of people going in and out of Phantasm, she headed there first.

"Hey there sailor," she winked at a spacehand who was hanging about outside. Her hips swayed seductively as she entered the establishment.
