Irina regreted that she hadn't had time to complete her training. Her skills would be recognised as a combat engineer grade; known as the 'paramedic' of demolitions. Alliance soldiers knew that any disarmament of a bomb required a real 'surgeon'.

"Do ve hav Explosiv Ordnance Disposals Technician on station? Masterclass or Senior class pleasing", Irina asked Security,"Check service records activ or retired ov all personnel on the stations. Priority clearance."

I looked up what a Senior/Master Explosive Ordance Disposal Tech is and their required training/qualifications. Definitely not Irina.

It was the kind that commonly was plugged into a block of plastic explosive.

OOC: is that the same detonator they used in Battlestar Galactica?

The second Maczarek guy quickly thought.

"We have Talia Vaughn. She's a Grand Master if that helps".

- Maczarek guy

OOC: Not personally mine - it's Howard Tayler's. He's the creator of long-running mercenary sci-fi webcomic Schlock Mercenary. The Schlock calendar for 2012 features this Maxim for March.

Re: Storage Decks 7-15

OOC: Yes it is the battlestar detonator.

"Ve need her", Irina stated.
She took a deep breath. She wanted to make another hole and examine the other side of the crate for a potential 2nd detonator. She had already broken the key rules stated in every manual around the verse. Once Talia came she would be scolded for her incompetant high risk procedures and then be arrested.
'Detention wasn't so bad. I will have many days to pray and meditate' Irina thought to herself.

YakovII suddenly perked up. He started barking in the direction of the case, looking to Irina for permission to move from the spot she had him sit.

OOC: Silent are you going to have the Grand Master show up, or shall we have Irina finish the job?

OOC: Let's have the Grand Master show up just as Irina's finishing.

Irina signed for Yakov to come her. She was crouch down at the side of the crate where she had made "the incision". She stroked Yakov at his collar and looked into his eyes.
'I trust you with my life my dearest friend. If you give me the sign I will not hestitate to disarm this bomb' Irina thought to herself as she waited for a signal from her companion.

Yakov walked up to Irina and promptly licked her face. The kindly gesture was reassuring to Irina that the Goddess was with her. That or the Dog was saying good bye before she blew herself all over the storage room walls.

'Let us make the great climb up the spirit tree to our ancestors my friend'
Irina look at the vision of the detonator to learn its secrets. She needed to open the crate and then either disarm or remove the detonator from the main explosive. She hoped the class of detonator was a standard "plug and activate" long term time delayed device with no external trigger mechanism. It looked like the type of detonator a rookie could use; stick it in the C-4 and press the big red button. The timing mechanism was deep inside the metal casing and it could be preset for months, days, minutes or milliseconds. Irina felt there could be a 2nd detonator inside the crate that was the actually booby trap if the crate was moved or tampered with.
Irina put her probe back in the crate and focused on the lid, hinges and latch to find any trigger mechanisms. She switched between ultra violet and infrared spectroscopy to find any laser triggers or virtually 'invisible' conductive wiring.

Re: Storage Decks 7-15

The probe slowly and methodically thread its way through the foam interior to the crease where the lid and the base met. As far as Irina could make out, there was nothing resembling a device attached anywhere along it. It occured to her that the bomb maker was not that proficent at his craft.

Irina pulled out a can and sprayed the latch/lock with liquid nitrogen agent. She smiled at Yakov as his nose caught some of the white frosty cloud as the air went cold. She waited for the metal to become brittle and she popped the latch with her tool. She opened the crate to reveal ......

Re: Storage Decks 7-15

The inside of the crate was designed for secure transport of its contents. Cut into the foam were indentations meant to securely fit the item placed there. Laid out very professionally were room for 6 detonators and four large cubes of plastic explosives. Curiosly two of the detonators were missing and one cube of explosives was clearly not present.

None of the detonators were fastened to the explosives and they were not connected by any physical means. A bill of lading showed an order of four explosives and six detonators from a registered manufacturer on Santos going to a registered mining company on Greenleaf.

Irina was relieved but disappointed she didn't forsee this. She had now commited the following crimes punishable by Alliance law - destruction of property, tampering with sealed secured dangerous cargo and impersonating an Alliance Combat Technician. Irina made a final inspection of the cargo to ensure there was no 2nd detonator or any type of "false flag" booby trap. Once she ensured all was at it seemed she began putting away her tools and deactivated the jamming device.
"1 block ov explosive 2 detonation plugs maybe missing", Irina said to security pointing to empty slots,"Ve need for check sealed dangerous goods manifest for this cargo."

New scenario - terrorists steal a block of explosive and 2 detonators from mining consignment. The cube maybe separated into two explosive devices. Terrorists only took what was needed for the intended targets. What is the target? The station? a docked ship? a VIP?

Re: Storage Decks 7-15

At that point, Corporal Talia Vaughn arrived. Her long red hair was swept up into a bun and her uniform indicated her Grand Master EOD qualification.

"We'll do that", one of the guards.

"Do what?" Talia asked, "What's just happened?"

The guard told her and she swore loudly. She was going to have to take this up to Lieutenant Arkwright and he wasn't going to be impressed. It had been a bad day and it was going to be worse.

A second flame headed beauty jumped out of the lift and strode her way down toward Land of Storage. She held up her identification pass to the outer perimeter of security men, noticing that there was not a lot of security for a bomb threat. She walked into the reception area and saw two guards in conversation, the red heaired one swearing loudly. Scarlett walked up behind them.

"What's going on with my station Constable?"

Vaughn turned to Wilson. Hadn't the woman learned Maczarek insignia yet?

"Hello, I am Corporal Vaughn. There appears to be some missing explosives. This is not a bomb, but there may be one on the station. We also have a dead woman, an annoyed Wallensteiner and a cat stuck up a tree in the plant store".

- Vaughn

She looked incredously at the woman. "Are you saying we have another dead woman, Corporal Vaughn?! When did this happen!" She cursed the Unified Audit Office for keeping her distracted from station business for so long. Damn she was never going to get a vacation from this job. The place would literally fall apart.

"First things first. What do we know about this missing explosive?"

Irina swabbed the sides of a block of explosive and then held it to Yakov nose. She sealed the swab in a sample bag incase she needed to track down the explosives somewhere on this immense station.
"I'm going to buy you a big bag of treats", Irina said in Russian,"Very good Yakov."

"I don't know", Vaughn replied, "I just got here. Move aside".

She indicated this last to Irina. She then picked up a block of plastic explosives and then sniffed it to try to determine what it was.

Irina moved to the side and she signed to Yakov to behave. She stood ready to salute but she knew the EOD technician would ignore her and concentrate on the job as a true professional. She stayed silent and waited to be interrogated.

The explosives had a distinict taste of almonds. The manifest showed them as a simple blasting 808 type compund. the stamp in the material rated them at 2000m/s.
