She smiled a bit and shook her head. "I got to work, plus I pulled a bad draw to be going and joining you in your business. I'd say be careful, but what's the fun in that?" The gambler tilted her head back and finished her drink.

The woman gave a wink to the man and slid on out of the bar.

Alex strolled like a lion out from the back room where he'd been 'interviewing' Yve. She was hired, very definitely hired, on the basis of her act alone, but she hadn't needed to know that until after an extended tryout.

He made his way towards the club's office area to see if he could catch Kris.

Yve was still in the back room, recovering.

In the time he'd been interviewing, Kris had finished the books, entertained the accountant, and was now painting her nails. She didn't look up  when he entered, but sighed in faux exasperation.

"Oh, you're finished? Are you sure you were thorough enough?"

Her tone was one of affectionate sarcasm.

"I'm sure", she replied, tersely.

"Now, if you can focus your mind elsewhere for a few moments, I wonder if you'd mind signing these".

She nodded to a small pile of papers on the desk, already embellished with her own moniker.

"Chow signed everything off for this month - we've made a small profit again".

Of course what they didn't put through the books always amounted to a much larger profit.

Alex gave the documents a perfunctory glance, picked up an expensive pen from his stationery section of the office and started signing while he continued to speak.

"We may need it for bribes," he commented. "There's a new - and highly motivated - lawman on the station, part of the new security company contract."

"My clever Alex. Of course."

She never grew bored of him being her mentor.

"And the new girl," she added."Is she starting tonight?"

"Goodness, Kris," he replied with feigned affront, and continued with insincere castigation; "where is your humanity? The poor girl had a strenuous interview today! Let her rest tonight, for pity's sake!"

He looked up from the papers as he finished signing them and straightened his back, placing his hands on his hips for a moment and rolled his shoulders.

She raised an eyebrow, meeting his gaze.

"If you've strained a muscle, I'm not rubbing your shoulders. I've got things to do before we open for the evening. I'm having my nails done in..."- she paused and looked at the clock on her datapad - "...about five minutes."

"Do you mind if I leave you to it?", she added, standing and placing the papers in the drawer.

OOC: Are the 'streets' on the station foot traffic only, or can we ride bikes and quadbikes around like that thing Wash was driving in one of the episodes, towing freight?

Re: Phantasm - Deck 5

ooc: the upper decks are usually devoid of vehicles. Some do exist but are for maintenance and official use only. (Yes Scarlett gets a golf cart if she wants it). Private vehicles no. Lower decks require much more hauling so there are a variety of cargo lifters and transport vehicles.  Cargo elevators allow for vehicles to reach the docking ring. It would likely be a nightmare to drive on the retail levels. There are service cooridoors that get goods to most blocks, but not neccesarily to individual shops. That's for shop keepers to arrange with smaller delivery carts.

Re: Phantasm - Deck 5

The following wave arrived in Alexander Northland and Kristin van Straten's inboxes.

=Dear sir or madam, my name is Daniel Franco. I'm the owner of Speedy Transportation Services, a new business here on Greenleaf. In my efforts to better establish myself, I'd like to let you know about my services and if it interests you I'd like to take a moment to discuss with you a possible arrangement that might be mutually beneficial.

As you well know, getting clients in the door is the first big step. With Speedy Transportation Services, now it's even easier. With cash in hand, clients are ready to pay to get from point A to point B all over the station - why not make point B your business?

Imagine a client is done for the day and begins walking around the station looking for something to do. Moments later Speedy Transportation Services comes by offering an express service to your business AND at a discounted price.

The first step is exclusive advertising space along with a promotion - discount express transportation to your business.

I'd really love to tell you more, but I'd prefer to meet with you in person to discuss this great offer with you. If you're interested, please send me a wave with a time when I can meet with you personally.

Re: Phantasm - Deck 5

OOC: Anticipating Quentin's arrival, I thought I'd post to note that, as it's late afternoon (I think about 4pm?), Phantasm is very much at its most docile, with only one barmaid staffing an otherwise empty bar, perhaps one or two individuals sat at tables on their own, the doors to the nightclub theme rooms all locked up tight. Michael, thanks for your PM, feel free to have Quentin arrive, and Deborah or me will RP the barmaid.

Re: Phantasm - Deck 5

OOC: Thanks, Ash!

- Quentin Doulos -

Quentin hesitated at the door, uncertain what to make of the deserted club. If a place ever could be truly dead, this was it.
Subtle, Quentin. Damn subtle. You idiot! How hard do you think it'll be to find you and your guys now, huh? Try and mask a conversation in this noise!
Still, he had nowhere else to go at the moment, and he had responsibilities to uphold. Though Phantasm technically wasn't within in his current assignment, they would need some kind of hold on the owners if they wanted to use it as a meeting place for any amount of time. The trick was surprising them, unannounced visits and so on.  Approaching the barmaid, he fished out his Auditor ID and presented it to her as he spoke.
"Greetings, madam. I am from the Universal Audit Office on an unannounced visit. I would like to examine your accounts as is within my authority by law. Failure to produce named accounts or non-compliance may result in severe penalties.
And a glass of whisky if you have it." He smiled.

Ginger smiled, nervously.

"I'll just give the manager a call," she said, starting to walk away before turning back and apologising.

"Sorry, I'll get you your drink first."

She poured a whiskey, extra large, and sat in on the counter in front of Quentin.

"Won't keep you a moment, sir", she added, hurrying away towards the door to the office.
