Re: Deck 5: The Golden Paradise Casino

Similarly the dealer didn't even flinch as Josie slid into the seat. She just waited for her to place her opening bid as the next hand was dealt out. In addition to the man Tomas wanted her to approach, was an old asian woman, a rough looking fellow in a bowler hat and a regular name Clancy, who made his living working the cards too, just not in an offical capacity like Josie. He had a headstart in sizing up the competition and seemed to be building up the confidence of the bowler hat guy in his play. He was an obvious mark.

Clancy was like all casino regulars a bit problematic. Technically as a regular he helped them make money by getting others to bet against him and by contributing to the money in the pool. The fact remained though that Clancy wouldn't be back if he didn't make money and that was problematic for the house.

Still, Josie was going to treat it like a dance. Clancy, knowing or not, was her partner. Clancy could deal with the man in the bowler hat, she would focus on the man that Tomas had tipped her off to while working on the old woman. Between Clancy and her they could probably divide this table pretty well so long as they didn't go after each other right away.

"I guess she is well something."  Mina said as she began to watch the game casually.  "Umm you wanted to see me Mr. Blaine?"  Mina continued, her hand brushing aside her hair behind her ears which made her look a bit more professional looking.

Re: Deck 5: The Golden Paradise Casino

Tomas Blaine smiled at Mina like a kindly father. "I have a favor to ask of you. By all means feel free to say no. At the table over there just next to Josie. I assume you met Josie. Nice lady, vicious card player. She is playing against a man that is throwing a private party up in his suite tonight. High roller, Core connections, big money... He wants some entertainment for him and his guests tonight. I know this is not your thing, and you were fired to sing on the stage down here, but he's offered a considerable amount of credits. I'm willing to give you half of it if you do the job. That's an even $15,000 credits to you."

He looked honest like he wasn't playing her.

Re: Deck 5: The Golden Paradise Casino

Clancy didn't even seem to notice Josie's arrival. He just sat back cooly and tossed his chips in for the next hand. The play was rather telling. Bowler hat guy was certainly not competition. He probably played well in ship galleys and break rooms, enough to make him think he could compete on a higher level. Clancy could read him like a book. The Asian woman was an obvious trader. She face was an impassive mask of jade.

Josie was dealt two queens with a ten, four and two. Not outstanding, but something to work with. Clancy made some a joking comment to Bowler Hat guy, who was looking a little annoyed.

Mina nodded slightly seemed a bit worried about being in a room with people she didn't know.  "I do not know if the band is ready to start yet or do you mean just me?"  she said not looking at the table currently.

"This is a solo gig. There isn't much room in the suite with his guests to put a whole band set in. Of course we can get one of the guys up there to play some acoustic numbers or we can get some recorded tracks. Whatever you need." Tomas replied reassuringly.

Mina's uneasyness returned,  "Well I am just gonna be up there to sing right not ........anything else correct?"  Mina didn't totally trust Tomas yet which because of what she went threw over the past few years it is doubtful Tomas would take any offense.  However her tone reflected that.

Tomas gave her a reassuring smile. "Hey kid, would I let you walk into anything unpleasant? He's a good patron and we want to make him feel at home. You're just there to sing. IF he tries anything else just let me know."

Re: Deck 5: The Golden Paradise Casino

Josie would reel her mark in by playing middle of the road. Not too cautious, not too bold.  The idea was to  get a feel for her mark, to make sure that they would feel comfortable risking some money at the table.  Then go in and strike once they were feeling as though they could do no wrong.

Re: Deck 5: The Golden Paradise Casino

Clancy continued to plug away at the man in the bowler cap who seemed to be getting increasingly irritated at his hand. The asian woman seemed to be picking up on Clancy playing him too. Josie's mark appeared to be amused by the goings on at the far side of the table. Apparently he had seen folks played before. Irregardless the game seemed to be steering towards the asian woman's favor.

"Well what is his name and who are these guests gonna be, like I mean how many people."  Mina asked Tomas feeling a bit more confident and her tone suggested more businesslike rather than nervious.

Re: Deck 5: The Golden Paradise Casino

Tomas smiled that she was coming around to her usual self. "His name is Dmitri Khan. I don't know who will be at his party, but I expect you will likely see Miss Josie get an invitation. I would prefer to have another loyal face up there with you. Just to keep things on the level. But I expect you both will be in for a good time, and you will be well paid.

-Tomas

Dmitri looked at the players gathered around the table. The Asian woman had won the last hand, but now it looked as if fortune was smiling on him. He looked across at the attractive woman wearing sunglasses. He considered she was a competent player, but she was not pressing advantages he knew he would have taken if he was in her position. But she made the table more pleasant and taking some of her money never hurt. He would consider letting her have a hand or two as the evening went one.

Ironically enough, Josie was considering how many hands to let Dmitri take as she began pressing her advantage against the trader, letting the Clancy annoy the man in the bowler.

She really wanted to get the field down to Clancy, her mark and her. That was her goal.

Re: Deck 5: The Golden Paradise Casino

Dmitri smiled at Josie coolly as the hand went his way. He raked the pot towards himself and commenced stacking the chips in neat tight columns. He turned to a cocktail waitress and ordered a scotch for himself and sent another over to Josie. He lifted his glass to her as the waitress placed the cocktail in front of Josie. He placed his ante for the next hand. Around the table the players all got in.

Josie smirked as Dmitri took the pot. She wasn't all that concerned yet - although it was obvious he was not a man to give ground or quarter.  She would take the glass and lift it with a nod to her fellow poker player.

"I usually don't accept a glass from a man before he tells me his name."

Alex strolled comfortably into the casino, slowly coming to a standstill a few paces after crossing the threshold so he could have a look around for familiar faces.

What Kris didn't understand about card games like Tall Card and, Alex had to admit, even antiquated Poker, was the constant thinking, analysis, strategy, maths, etc. that went into a successful game.

He was far from a pro, but he was enjoying learning by watching and learning by doing...

The dark man smiled at her. "Dmitiri. Dmitiri Khan. I like to recognize those with gifts when I see them." He raised his glass to her and took a sip. He seemed to equally be soaking in her presence as he was the cocktail. "Will you be with us long this evening?"

Speaking of Pros, there was an obvious high stakes game going on in the pits near the center of the Casino. Alex knew Tomas by sight. The man was intently watching the game next to them and was talking to an attractive Burnette.

"Our Josie's in action, hm?" he asked.
