Topic: Sim Order

I've swapped Cydonia and Greenleaf Skyplex round so Greenleaf Skyplex is at the top in the hopes of making it more obvious as a start sim for new members. Cydonia rocks, obviously, but given that it's out in the Styx on the planet Deadwood which is, in turn, out in the galactic Styx, it's not an ideal place for new characters to regularly turn up. Whereas Greenleaf Skyplex is supposed to have a constant influx of through traffic, as the trade hub of its quadrant or sector or the like.

Let me know if you have any challenges to this rationale or indeed if you have any other suggestions for restructuring the Firefly sim's list.

I've also opened a thread in the Management forum on restructuring the actual order of the sim Categories here: http://www.phoenix-rp.com/viewtopic.php … 325#p18325

Re: Sim Order

On one hand, I'd like to make the site as attractive as possible so putting our best, most active Sims near the top seems logical.

On the other hand, I'd like to give the less active Sims a fair shake with the publicity that goes with being at the top of the list (closer to the screen everyone sees when they first hop on our site, so they're the first Sims they see).

I think ultimately the top Sims should be the most popular and active ones, because it'll be the first Sims potential newcomers will see, bringing them to the site.

Re: Sim Order

We could conceivably go with a more free-form look though with perhaps a Flash interactive menu? If I can get my hands on Adobe Flash I could make a project of this, spiffing up the site's look!  big_smile

Consider this a side-project and not a priority, because I'll have to buy Adobe Flash first before we can make this happen...

Re: Sim Order

OFF TOPIC: I know that when I was looking to join the site... I knew it was called Phoenix Roleplaying, but really struggled to find it on Google. And then when I did find it, the great big WE HAVE MOVED, made me keep looking for the "New Site".

Add that, to the fact that some of the Sims are WAAAAAAY down there on the list, and I can defintely see why some Sims lack new faces.

ON TOPIC: I think that the rationale for swapping them is sound. Greenleaf is meant to be a hub, Cydonia is meant to be hidden away.

The "MIRANDA: Freetown" Sim is now open and waiting for players. Come one, come all.

Re: Sim Order

You can also get free Flash editors (and no, I don't mean warez).

Free Flash Editors? Can you recommend any good ones?

I appriciate Grant's comment above. Nice work taking down the We've moved sign. No reason to confuse folks at this point.

Re: Sim Order

Thanks for all your comments so far guys. And Robert, a flash revamp of the index would be amazing. Euan, is that do-able alongside our software and on our current hosts?

There's no reason Flash can't play a role on Phoenix functionality-wise - it is easily implemented on virtually (no pun intended) any site.

The only real question in my mind is what we can do as a backup for those who will not be able to view a Flash object. Keep the categories listed below?

Re: Sim Order

We'd definitely want a non-Flash based interface as an alternate. As I posted elsewhere, Adobe has canceled the Flash player project for mobile devices, so it's possible the writing is on the wall for Flash in favor of HTML5.

That said, if Robert really wants to create a Flash interface, I wouldn't say no. wink

Robert, I haven't looked into it beyond just seeing what is available (I'd been considering doing some Flash development myself). I can't see to find the list I had compiled now. sad

I think one of the projects I was looking at was Open Dialect, but like I said I didn't do much besides find out what was available, no idea how good it is.

I'm going LOA now until the 20th, but I'll look forward to seeing how far we get with exploring this topic.

Re: Sim Order

Here's another one I've found, Robert. Again, haven't used it myself, just looking around for tools:
