Topic: YouTube ad

What do people think about a YouTube ad for our club?

Re: YouTube ad

That would be pretty cool! Maybe we could follow it up with a series of interviews.  big_smile

Re: YouTube ad

The tricky part is, if we did interviews we would want voice recordings or video recordings so it will require a lot of organizing...but it's doable!

Re: YouTube ad

Right now, I was thinking of a basic introduction to our site

Re: YouTube ad

That sounds good to me. A basic tour of how stuff works, perhaps?

Re: YouTube ad

Yes, that's right. I've started work on this, including the rudiments of a script. It just needs someone with a decent voice-over voice (which certainly isn't me).

Re: YouTube ad

I don't know, a British guy would appeal to both Brits and Americans more than an American, I think, and the Essex accent is very vogue right now. :-p

Re: YouTube ad

Uhh...err...I consider myself rather clever with voice impersonations and might be able to find a happy medium for you. Of course I can always just do my own voice, but if anything in here catches someone's eye...

I can mimic regional dialects with only a couple sentences worth of material to listen to and a few minutes to myself. While traveling in France I've fooled people into thinking I was from France (I fooled Americans...don't everyone applaud at once) and fooled people into thinking my French was Louisiana-brand French (despite the fact that my French is pure France-French and not diluted with any Spanish/African roots). Most recently I've been mastering the Irish manner of speaking English (and working on a blend with varying techniques to produce what I perceive to be an Older Scottish dialect). I tend to think my German and Russian accents are pretty good though I occasionally get them jumbled in my head.

Beyond that, my arsenal of voices I can do include:

Sean Connery (of the Indiana Jones variety) - by everyone I know that has heard my impersonations, this seems to be considered my best voice
Arnold Schwarzenegger (I don't pride myself on this one, his voice is old-hat in comedy-impersonations)
Snarf (from Thundercats) - one of my best
Milton (from Office Space) - one of my best
Col. Sink (from Band of Brothers) - one of my good ones, a little rusty now though
Gru (from Despicable Me) - one of my best
Mickey Mouse (used to do it quite well, pretty rusty now)
Christopher Walken (though I can point you to a number of people who do the voice better, this is one of my newer ones)
Shaggy (from Scooby-Do, again one of my newer ones, and I don't scream for 20 minutes straight to be able to do the voice as the original voice actor was rumored to have done)
Mr. Lumbergh (from Office Space, not as good as my Milton)
Lt Col. Lewis 'Chesty' Puller (from The Pacific) - also a newer one, the flair of his accent is reminiscent of President John Henry Eden from Fallout 3 - they're very very similar

I've also been working on a Mobster-style voice (haven't nailed down an exact region, but I think the influences lead me to a New York, early 20th century Mobster) - this one seems to be coming along nicely and may well be done, Jackie Chan (turning out to be quite a challenge for me), and Raggae/Dub vocals.

Realistically, it may be best to do a couple of these with a few regional voices to give it the right flair for different groups of people. But I'd be happy to throw my name in the hat for "voice acting" if you want to call it that.

Re: YouTube ad

And we should definitely gather voice samples from people interested in "voice acting". i.e. 10-20 second clip of them talking to get a feel for rhythm and tonality.

Re: YouTube ad

Definitely. I'd like to hear your Sean Connery.
