Topic: Urgent input needed!

Greetings!

Apologies to all for my lack of presence as well as participation. I could go on a ramble and give explanations and excuses, but I would rather focus on the bigger picture: Phoenix.

At this point in time, I cannot continue to try to rebuild Phoenix, especially as it stands now. Do I want the site/club to die? No, I would love for it to continue to, like it’s name, rise from the ashes once again.

I foresee two course of action:

A: Phoenix Closes.

B: Phoenix moves to Jcink. (or Nova)

I do not want to get into prolonged discussions and would prefer action.

Re: Urgent input needed!

Perhaps closing would be best, given the situation with lack of growth and all. That’s just my personal opinion though. I too would like to see this forum flourish, I’ve enjoyed my time here and it’s one of the few forums where I actually like everyone on here.

"I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track myself. But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and would blow you head clean off, you've gotta ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?" -Harry Callahan

Hi, I'm from Detroit! (Yes it did suck)

I do not like option A. However, I do not see any way in which B will make a difference. Forum hosting providers do not make a community. People do.

^^ This. I don't see any issues with the medium we have right now, which means moving to a different medium won't change much.

Short of current members' lives suddenly getting freed up, without new people I don't see much changing.

Re: Urgent input needed!

I concur with Euan and the Ant Man.  It is up to the players and their GM(s) to be active and make sims viable through active play and posting.  I am a broken record on this issue, so I apologize to y'all for repeating myself.

If we can have an active sim or two where the players and GMs commit to regularly post, then the site will survive through this troubling time.  We have Ironette wanting to run a Star Stars sim, and she has three players committed to actively post.  I presume Ironette is going to GM the sim?  If Ironette is still game, then if we can get someone in admin to set up the sim site for us, we can have an active game going.  It is active play that attracts gamers, not the site we use, and a sure fire way to kill a sim is for the players and/or the GM to go inactive.  I committed to Kevin to post at least once every three days in his Star Wars sim, and I have done so, though the posts for the last two months have simply been posts saying I'm here and ready.  Just avoiding AWOL while awaiting the GM to respond to the posts by myself and SilverRush.

If Ironette is still willing to run her game, she has three players wanting to play.  This is a good starting point.  So, if we can get admin to set up the sim for us we can become an active sim for Phoenix.  Set it up and let us run with it.  Action attracts players.  Inaction bleeds players away from Phoenix and we stagnate.

Just my two cents worth, my friends. The key is commitment to play and an active GM and players.  I'm willing to give it a go if y'all are.  What say you?

Re: Urgent input needed!

We can set up Ironette's game as soon as we have a name to put to it, assuming she still wants to run it.

Beyond having one or more active games going, the most important thing to increase activity, in my opinion, is getting more people in, both by finding them and by making it easy for them to start posting. Cutting down our lengthy rules and finding a way to make registration simpler (exploring signing in with Facebook or similar, though that will be a fair chunk of work) would likely help the second.

Re: Urgent input needed!

Sadly, most of the people I know that like RP don't do play-by-post, and the few that do have fallen off the face of the internet in the last 10-odd years.

As far as trimming rules though (not gonna lie, I didn't actually read them all before now) I see a lot of stuff that could just be summarized under "Don't Be A Jackass". Perhaps a separate thread to discuss potential rules changes/trimming?

Broadly the same for me in terms of people. As for the rules - many, many moons ago, when the site was first born, this was the entirety of the rules:

Until proper rules are worked out, let's just keep it simple:

Don't be an ass. Treat others the way you'd want to be treated.

Also, for obvious reasons you need to abide by our host's terms of service too.

"Disclaimer: Sims may include adult themes, such as, and not limited to, sex, drugs and sausage rolls." was added not very long after. I like a lot of our current rules - things about canon characters and having a standardised age rating/content warning/house rules/etc are useful for a roleplaying site - but we could definitely compress a lot of the ones that matter to players down to something similar to that again.

Re: Urgent input needed!

I like the simple rules.  If someone behaves as an ass, eject them from the game.  I have written to Ironette to see if she is still willing to run her game, and if so, to let Euan know the name of the sim.  Active play attracts players, so let's attract new blood to Phoenix.

Re: Urgent input needed!

Just checking in to see if we are moving forward with the set-up of Ironette's Star Wars sim.  She provided a name for the sim on 6/20/2018, but as yet nothing is posted.

"Sim Name is... Eliza Battle: A Star Wars Story"

I still see upwards of 30 guests checking the site at any one time, and it would be good to have something active for them to look at... and for us all to play.

Re: Urgent input needed!

Per the Star Wars sim idea thread, Eliza Battle is now up and running.

Re: Urgent input needed!

Thanks Euan!

Re: Urgent input needed!

How many active players do we currently have?

Re: Urgent input needed!

Ironette has three active players in her Star Wars sim, which is a full complement.  I can only speak about this sim in which I am active.  :-)

Re: Urgent input needed!

I'm not in an active story, but I'm still here on the site. I check it weekly for activity.

Re: Urgent input needed!

Three is honestly next to nothing.

Re: Urgent input needed!

True, Silent, but Ironette is the only active GM on site at this time, and the three of us playing here game are all enthusiastic and active.  As I have said before many times, regular player activity and GM responsiveness make for a viable sim.  There are usually over 20 people, sometimes as high as 40, who are checking out the Phoenix site at any one time, and I'm glad they have something active to look at.   smile

I'm very glad she has volunteered to run a game, and I am enjoying the game play with players SilverRush and FiftyFootAnt.  I hope more of the old guard will step up and GM games.  Most sims shown have had no GM activity since April.   sad

Re: Urgent input needed!

I would, but there's not enough players to make any game I'd run viable.

Re: Urgent input needed!

I wrote to the GM and the missing player in our semi-active Star Wars game, and after looking at the record, neither one has opened the message I sent them.  This doesn't look good for the home team.  Any ideas as to where everyone went?

Re: Urgent input needed!

Which players were they?

Re: Urgent input needed!

Ironette (GM) and FiftyFootAnt.  Everyone was active until... it was like someone threw a switch.

Re: Urgent input needed!

It's bizarre how some folks will be around, active, then suddenly drop off the face of the planet. Sometimes it happens, and that sucks, but for two of three players in the sim to vanish at once is just... sad sad

Re: Urgent input needed!

I just checked the in house messaging system and my messages to both Ironette and FitfyFootAnt remain unopened.  It seems that our Star Wars sim is destined for failure due to lack of interest.  Sigh...

Re: Urgent input needed!

Well that's a darn shame. And it was rolling along so well before hmm

Re: Urgent input needed!

Agreed, things were going very well.  No warning or explanation offered... it just died.
