It's like Wikipedia, but for sims. It's the link currently labelled 'The Simming League' in links of interest.

Re: SimEnc

Ah, no wonder I couldn't find it. Thanks!

Some suggestions:
Either list all active sims, or none. It appears VERY biased to have a handful of firefly sims (and not even all of them) and the ONE SINGLE non-Firefly sim being the Fighter Ops sim.
Besides the blog, mention the twitter and facebook entries. Also may mention our wiki, unless that violates some ToS for SimEnc.
In fact, rather than keeping information in two different places, it may be easier to simply link to our wiki for most things (history, command structure, etc).

Also, the command timeline is inaccurate - I was never a DGC. Officially I was the Contender from 2011-2012, we didn't really have a "second in command" type during 2010-2011 (Euan would probably be the closest thing while we were under martial law). Although I guess DGC isn't really second in command - Contender I think is officially supposed to fill the role of GC if the GC is removed/goes AWOL, while the DGC is more of a support staff position. Although that was sort of hand waved away when Ash went on LOA and appointed an "acting GC".

Personally I'd remove the command timeline bit entirely from the page - it doesn't serve much purpose and must be maintained.

Re: SimEnc

While looking around the site, I notice a few other things:

Not sure why two of our awards have their own pages (Player of the Year and Friend of Phoenix), while other awards do not (Sim of the Year, GM of the Year, SL of the Year). Also, stating is "Friend of Phoenix" is the 'highest award' is blatantly false and mildly offensive to those who received the other awards. Nor is Player of the Year the 'second highest award'.

Why does the blog have its own wiki page?

Looking under the Phoenix Roleplaying category, I see a bunch of pages for sims and other stuff that would need maintaining (unlike a more static page like "The AJJE Schism"). I'm not sure why we want to try to maintain these pages when we have our own wiki? Is it for additional exposure? An if so, can't we just have a very simple description and a link to our own wiki with more detail?

Re: SimEnc

In response to those points - ultimately there is nothing stopping you or anyone else from joining and making your own edits.

1. I am in the process of adding all the sims to the site one by one.
2. Added.
3. Possible, but the command timeline is a standard SimEnc feature and it would look odd without it. I can link to the government.
4. Corrected, although I don't think I added that bit. Also, it won't really need that much maintenance.
5. I'll correct those to make it clear that they are equal and add the others. Jason, would you mind providing me with a bio for your entry so I can add your award?
6. It's a newsletter and this will increase its, along with our profile.
7. This is for additional exposure and more general information - a link to the wiki pages can be added for each sim.

Re: SimEnc

Thanks Silent. I would but I'm behind on keeping the official wiki up to date. wink

Could we simply add a list of sims without pages for now?

I was wondering about that command timeline, I only clicked a few other sims and only noted AJJE having it, but if that's part of their standard template we can keep it, just not sure how to reflect the 'command' structure more accurately.

Not really sure what to add for a bio, maybe just a quick sentence like what Ash has for his page:
"Jason Andersen is a simmer and member of Phoenix Roleplaying."

I thought I had a bio page on our wiki but I see it still is in its testing form. Some day I'll get back to that...

Suggested edits added.

Re: SimEnc

This sounds familiar:

http://www.pbemplayers.com/articles/oth … on-its-way

I haven't heard SimEnc's own corporate side of the story, but Charles Star can be contacted on [email protected]

I was involved in this on a private basis, so I won't say anything publicly on the matter.

Re: SimEnc

That does sound VERY familiar, and that's too bad. I hope it gets resolved one way or another. If another wiki comes about, I'll (hopefully) be joining to make additions for Phoenix.

Re: SimEnc

Would it be prudent to remove the link to SimEnc from the top of the site, given the current controversy?

Re: SimEnc

I'm not sure if we're completely withdrawing our support from SimEnc. If what Charles Star says is all a fair description, then yes I'd say we should, but I don't know if SimEnc's people have something that might shed light on the situation and somehow clarify what's going on. But until then, I've personally expressed my sympathy and support to Charles Star.

Re: SimEnc

The issue was ultimately around a new editing policy that while well-intentioned, was ultimately not the best for the site.

I'm going to retain the link to both this and Charles Star's new wiki.

Re: SimEnc

I have mixed feelings about that. As Ash said, with only one side of the story it doesn't seem fair to just yank the link, but keeping it there also would send a potential message of supporting the very tyranny that Pheonix was reborn out of. An odd situation, at the least.

Kind of like how a company may fire an employee accused of doing something to save face itself (even if the employee is acquitted of the charges). Not exactly the same situation, but the point I'm making is: who we support/have alliances with does reflect on us as well.

Re: SimEnc

I think until the full story unravels, the right thing to do is what Silent's decided - link them both for now. Shows no favouritism, makes no comment, then once the mess has settled we can decide who we feel was in the right and act accordingly.

Re: SimEnc

Take this as you will: Charles Star has basically asked for all his articles to be taken off SimEnc... which is a great deal of the site.

Re: SimEnc

I noticed Chas Hammer deleted the article about Charles Star, and Charles Star has been banned from SimEnc. I guess he (CS) intends to use the content of his articles for the new wiki he's organising. Presumably he needs SimEnc to take them down so the new wiki is not accused of stealing SimEnc stuff.

He's either talked to Charles Star or made a (correct) guess.

I'm just inferring (emphasis on the "I guess" and "presumably").

Re: SimEnc

Okay, this soundbyte I have from Charles Star directly:

He says the new wiki is "going to fundamentally change the simming and online role playing community. The days of shutting down and blacklisting dissenters are over.
With this new wiki, everyone will have a say.  Consensus and collaboration will rule."

That was an email inviting people to join in the setting up of the new wiki, an invitation which is open to every member of the community. So once again for convenience if anyone wants to know more, his email address is: [email protected]

Re: SimEnc

Ah, I was just wondering if the banning was made public some where. (I'm assuming the removal of the page could easily been seen, if it is no longer there. I was more curious if they had listed the ban somewhere).
