Topic: Advertising Phoenix.....

Alrightly! Here’s how most forum based RPG’s advertise and affiliate with one another:

In a designated spot, guest friendly, there are either “forums” or “sub-forums”. One is First Link- this is for a first time posting of an ad, advert, or advertisement (ours is listed as a Site Description). Second is Link Back- Where one would return the favor after having another site post an advertisement in their First Link section. Lastly- Affiliate (Allies so to speak)- this is for the mini banners (usually 88x31 and clickable). I say this only because, I can get advertising crazy, but we are not set up in this advertising way.

Take Distant Fantasies as an example. (scroll to the bottom of the page, please.) I am in no way saying out Affiliate section should be huge! Just toss it out to see what everything thinks, and see if anyone has any ideas.

Re: Advertising Phoenix.....

Sounds good to me. As I've not dealt heavily with marketing anything, not much I can add. I say go for it and see how it goes. Not like we can't change tactics if it isn't working.

Re: Advertising Phoenix.....

It can create high traffic, and a downside is it can produce new members that wouldn't actually stick around for very long. Also the "section" or "category" would HAVE to be guest friendly and allow for guest posting....

Why is this required?

Re: Advertising Phoenix.....

Most folks advertising their sites do not want to have to register with a site to reciprocate an ad posting.  So... most advertising sections are guest friendly and allow guest posting, only in that particular section. Unlike RPG-D which wants one to register and have a minimum number of posts before even being allowed to submit your site to the directory.

What I am asking is what the opinion of most are about setting Phoenix up to advertise this way.

This section here -External Ads and Alliances" can stay like it is, so it would not be affected by guest postings. I would suggest creating another section/category/whateverwecallthemhere, and make it guest friendly. It would have:

-A sticky thread for "first time" advertisments/advertisers
-A sticky thread for "link back" advertiments... those who would see ours on there sites and come return the favor.
-An Affiliate section. Also known as Alliances. (a small 88x31 mini banner, usually) Can be set to scroll (marquee) to show all alliances and affiliates, usually placed in the description area so they can be seen. Or elsewhere on site easily displayed. Basically like we have already with Safe Haven and Before the Mast.

I can continued to add us to directories, but they are limited in number.

Re: Advertising Phoenix.....

I don't think this would be difficult to set up, however with an open area it may be difficult to keep the spam in check. We already have quite an aggressive spam deterrent and we still see it occasionally. With a free area for guest posting I wonder if we would spend more time cleaning out the spam then we would get benefit from the advertising.

I'm all for giving it a shot and seeing how it works, though.

(Speaking of spam, I usually keep the website open on my browser at least eight hours per day, so if I can help killing it, just tell me)

LOL I'm checking in almost constantly on my phone, myself! (Tis a grand idea, btw)

Yes, I've thought about having it set up that way would possibly increase the spam. But...simple blonde thought here....in some way it could deter spamming on roleplay boards. Could. why register when you can spam as a guest? Anyways... I am up for trying it.

Re: Advertising Phoenix.....

Just to let everyone know, I've got a YouTube ad due to go up in a couple of days.

Re: Advertising Phoenix.....

Misty: So, are we ready to proceed? You want Euan, Silent, or myself to set up a forum for this?

Re: Advertising Phoenix.....

As long as no-one has an issue with it, make it so. Doesn't matter who does it.

Adding it to the todo...
