Re: Mission one - Code Name: Escort Service

Gideon sat relaxed as one could possibly be in a room full of mass murderers.  The thought of having to to talk with this Mirabella girl made him feel uneasy; he saw a good deal of talking in the near future.

He sank into the chair, hoping everyone's gaze would glide over him.  Maybe, if kept quiet until that other Hermes pilot arrived, he wouldn't have to say a word.  Yes, that was a very nice plan, despite the fact it relied entirely on luck.

Re: Mission one - Code Name: Escort Service

Faust listened intently to all conversations, taking note of everyone's particular mannerisms, and comparing them to the suits he knew they piloted. Gideon, obviously a long range Hermes sitting in the back if the room on overwatch, the yin and yang Hades pilots, the ever studious Hephaestus, and the surprisingly predatory... Ares, he assumed. He couldn't help but to chuckle again, "sociopaths, one and all. Quite the motley crew we are..."

Angel had also been trying to put faces and personalities to the names in the medical records she'd been given.  The two Hades pilots had made that fairly easy, and Miguel too.  Which left the Orpheus and the Hermes pilot, who were distinguishable by age if nothing else.

Having identified the team, she looks back down to her pad.  She'd stopped really reading it a few minutes ago, but it still serves as a good enough social shield for now.  Eventually she would come under the scrutiny of the other pilots as they all tried to size each other up, but better if that can wait until she's got a better feel for them.

As the group was occupied with their talk and assorted other entertainments, a slight tone came through the Commander's communications. He answered and then cut his eyes over to Nemesis. "Reaperess!" he barked to get her attention. "I have some news and a possible fix for you." Once she calmed down a bit and looked ready to listen, he continued.

"Apparently the intelligence inside your Hades went berserk. This has happened from time to time, but it means that we had to put her down and regrow her. This means that as of right now you do not have a suit." As he watched the play of emotions across her face he softened the blow. "However, due to a remarkably similar psychological profile to Cuchillo, it has been judged that you would be able to transition fairly quickly into an Ares. Would this be copacetic?"

Before she could answer the door opened and two more pilots walked in, one of them, Angel and Skullette both recognized as the other Hermes pilot. The other, was an unknown, average height and muscular, he was a young black man with piercing green eyes. He walked over to Skullette and handed her bio file. "Tavairan, Apollo pilot."

As the two found their seats, Edelson cleared his throat and brought the screen to life.

Re: Mission one - Code Name: Escort Service

Skullette walks up tot he podium. "All right Vatos! Here's the way we do this. The Target, code named 'Princess', is supposed to be unharmed, by us at least. So hands off the Princess. Everybody else of course is fair game. Based on what the Commander just told us, we got a company of Scorps. they pay a lot of money for their equipment and you bet its good. Not as good as a wild bunch of Broncos, but our suits aint exactly legal for standard military units.

Compensation is under the usual rules of engagement. Somebody scratches Princess and none of us get paid. Assuming she comes through in one piece, bonuses are available for each tank taken down and for individual troops. There's not a high premium on civilians this trip, so not much point in wasting the ammunition. Based on the layout of the planetoid, the target is either in the main HQ with the drilling hardware, or she's somplace in the mines. If I was hiding Miss Lovely, I'd shove her in the mine. Much better defense and protection for a valuable asset. It also means our big guns, like the Hades won't fit in the subterranean sections.

So the basic game plan is to draw the bastards out with some diversionary destruction on the surface. Hades, Apollo, and Gideon's Hermes do your worst. Keep em busy and kill as many as you can. Hephaestus, we are gonna need you keeping our main line fighters functioning. I'll be running the caverns with Ares, Orpheus and Kody's Hermes. Doc, I want your drones out giving us as much intel on those caves as we can get before we rush in. Assuming we grab Princess, I need Tavairian in his Apollo to pick her up when we get to the surface and jet her to the drop ship at Marker Omega. If something happens and we have no Apollo we fight our way next to the big drill, secure a landing site and call for evac. We hold until Princess is clear.

Dust off is from hanger 5 in 60 minutes. Any questions?"

Miguel had been sitting in the chair looking thoroughly bored until Skullette had taken the stand. At that point he'd become very interested in the bottom of his boots.

The moment she finished speaking, he stood up and departed, wanting to get a look at his suit. Annoying Skullette was fun, but he was more interested in seeing the thing that was going to legitimize his favourite past-time...

Re: Mission one - Code Name: Escort Service

Angel looked up as the officer made his announcement to Mirabella.  It was certainly a concerning idea, and in the field could be terrifying.  She also noted that the officer defaulted to call-sign.  That might make things a little less awkward later.

She then settles back to listen to the briefing.  Nine suits, two teams and only one medic.  All the more reason for the surface team to draw as much fire as possible.  She looks around at the team she would be alongside.  The Apollo was completely unknown, but at least the other two seemed sane in the briefing room.  The lunatics were Skullette's problem, at least for now.

"I presume I'll be getting Tavairian's medical details before dust-off?"  she asks, just to be sure.

Re: Mission one - Code Name: Escort Service

Gideon thought hard about the points that hadn't been made so far in the plan, mainly how the battle would begin in the first place.  The initial engagement between the Hades-Hermes-Apollo-Hephaestus team would directly affect how well the rest of the team would fare in the mines.  On the off chance the enemy was expecting a Bronco team to rush in guns blazing, the battle would be off to a bad start.  Gideon wasn't one to take any chance like that.

He remembered one Cerberus tactic that never failed to give the attacker an upper hand.  Of course, it would take a bit of additional planning and stealth ops before the battle and it would need Skullette's approval.  But it couldn't hurt to at least try to make sure the Broncos had a better hand in this.

"Gunny, may I make a suggestion regarding the main line fighters?"

"In this instance, the team is authorized to clear a large enough area for the recovery vessel IVO the target point. House Sagittarius has given us enough leeway in funding for some necessary repairs to the facility. Once the area is cleared, the ship will drop and pick you up."

Dainul wrote:

"As a matter of fact, you should have just received his full bio-stats."

Looking around at each of the remaining pilots he nods his head. "As the Gunny stated, Dust-off is in 60. Good luck." With that he walks out of the room, leaving Skullette to answer anything further, to include the one from the quiet Hermes.

Re: Mission one - Code Name: Escort Service

Mirabella got up to check out her new suit. While on her way out she tossed Skullete a knife, it was a Jackknife. About 4 inches in length with a stainless steel blade with a serrated edge near the base. It was encased in polished oak and had "Vedi, Vidi, Vici" engraved into it.

"I forgot to give you that, don't ask where I got it Fraulein. Just know it means I've sworn to bring no harm to this team through my own hands"

She smiled again and headed off to get her new suit fitted

Skullette listened to the numerous questions being tossed her way as the pilot's broke their own way from the meeting. "First off, Lucas, we will call in for evacuation when princess gets clear. If Tavaraian does his job it should just be a few minutes.

Gideon, if you have a suggestion that keeps this team alive.." Her response was halted as she grabbed the knife hurled towards her from mid-air. She contemplated pulling her side arm, but Reapress' explanation of its significance made her hold her calm. She nodded back to Mirabella in acknowledgement of her pledge. "Thank you, but if you betray my trust, I swear I will use this knife of yours to cut your heart out. Now, Gideon, you had a suggestion?"
-Skullette

Re: Mission one - Code Name: Escort Service

Gideon spoke up. "I think there may be a chance the Scorpios are waiting for a Bronco team to show up.  Just a small chance, but I personally prefer to take the enemy by surprise at every opportunity.  What they would be expecting, would be for us to rush in guns blazing.  The main line could very well be in the enemy sights from the start.  In situations like this, the Cerberus would seed an area with explosives before a battle and detonate them in a sequence just as the battle started.  The explosives would cause confusion, mask our entry point, and put the enemy in a fog.  We used the dust as our cover, shooting and constantly moving so the enemy never figured out where we were.  This also hid our numbers.  Your retrieval team would find getting into the mines easier with a smokescreen than with just a firefight where everyone can be seen.

Wow, that was more words than Gideon had intended to use.  True, it was a trade off between his silence and the health of the team, but in hindsight, he could have just passed a note.

"We have a number of suits capable of the necessary stealth ops, and it would only add a few minutes to the mission time."

Gideon hushed himself, waiting for Skullette to give any reply.

Angel checks her pad for the new data, and brings it up on screen.

"Yes, it's here."

She gives it a cursory glance to check there aren't any obvious gaps, then returns her attention to Gideon's plan.  As plans went, it doesn't sound bad - increasing confusion and hopefully drawing more enemies out after the diversionary team.  So why does she find the idea of it so unsettling?

Re: Mission one - Code Name: Escort Service

"But we aren't Ceberus... we can just go in, guns blazing and put out a fair amount of smoke granades, that's quicker and has the same effect for visibilty. With the Apollo's mobility in the distraction team, we can also hide our numbers, when the Apollo changes the position after every shot."
Lukas scrached his head. "What is our way in? maybe we can prepare our distraction befor we touch down..."

"Lukas is correct. While I agree that a good distraction is needed as we start this operation, Gideon, we are working with much greater power on our side than you ever knew on your team. Not to mention this is a fast hit and grab mission, there isn't any time for elaborate seeding and preparation. We drop, we hit, we go. And yes, they are likely expecting us. Time is ticking down folks, so I suggest you grab what you need and get to the morgue to suit up."

Re: Mission one - Code Name: Escort Service

Gideon shrugged off the slightly embarrassing defeat.  At least now if something went wrong, it wouldn't be his plan to blame.

He gave his salute and left.  As he walked down the hallways he began to think of how strange it was not to have to plan every battle moment by moment and how now his team wasn't out gunnned in even the smallest skirmish.  He didn't like assuming he had the upper hand; he wanted to make sure of it at every chance.

Destiny is a freight train rolling along on a set course that only the conductor knows. When we get to the railroad crossing in our car, we can choose to stop and wait for the train to pass us by, or try to pull out in front of it and beat that bad boy across. That choice is our free will. If it's our destiny to be hit by the train, we will be hit by the train. The only thing we can change is how the train turns us into a hamburger.
