Topic: Retaining unread posts as unread between sessions

I find it rather frustrating when all the posts I was planning to read are marked as read when my session expires.

Is it possible to change the settings so that threads are marked as read only when people read them or hit "Mark all as read"?

Re: Retaining unread posts as unread between sessions

Not sure how it's possible on PunBB, but I'd like to have it so unless you've read it (or click to mark as read otherwise) it remains marked as unread once we get the new system.

Few, I thought I was the only one with that problem.

Re: Retaining unread posts as unread between sessions

Yeah, it hasn't really bothered me so much, but it has affected how I go about viewing posts. Namely, I open New Posts and then open every post I want to read in a new tab and then continue from there, that way I don't lose track of what posts I need to read. It would be easier with a "Mark as Read" type of function - agreed!

I suppose an ideal system would be one where it remains 'unread' until you actually open it. And a button to mark it unread again would be useful in case you were only skimming and wanted to go back to it, or something.

Any progress on this?

Re: Retaining unread posts as unread between sessions

Looking through the PunBB code, it's not something easily doable - it requires changing a healthy chunk of how the system marks posts as read and unread.

OK, that's a shame.

Something to wait for Phoenix 2.0 for, then?

Pretty much.

Righto. Shall we close this thread meanwhile?

May as well. Although I wonder, should we put a "Phoenix 2.0 feature list" or some such on the wiki for tracking all of these ideas at a glance?

Really better would be to set up some kind of project like at Source Forge for that kind of tracking, though, but something on the wiki could be a temporary solution.

Agreed, Jason. A "Phoenix 2.0 feature list" would ensure we don't have to trawl through a lot of posts when we come to review things.

That'd be fantastic, good thinking.

Adding it to my list to put on the wiki as a temporary solution until we have (if desired) some type of project management piece in place (eg Sourceforge).

Thank you, you're a star.

As for project management, I know we've used googlegroups for things before, is Sourceforge anything like that?

Not sure, I've never used google groups.
