Topic: Firefly Resources

These are general Firefly/Serenity resources I use:

http://firefly.wikia.com/ *** This is a good resource for most informational needs.

These are lists of Planets and Moons:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Fi … _and_moons

This is a GREAT resource that I would highly encourage everyone to look into, and it goes to mentioning canon and non-canon planets and moons, their populations, and other specs: http://firefly.wikia.com/wiki/The_Verse_in_Numbers - gives you over a hundred habitable and uninhabitable rocks in the 'Verse (and naming schemes for Asteroids), a dozen or so stars, and all the numbers you could hope for when getting into the nitty-gritty of planet/moon specifics.

Re: Firefly Resources

This is awesome, Robert!

One small thing I'd note is that habitable and inhabitable (bizarely) mean the same thing. The word you're after is uninhabitable. It's like flammable and inflammable both meaning 'this stuff burns'. Weird language we have.

Good catch - I've made the changes! That is weird though, and as soon as you said "uninhabitable" I knew exactly where I went wrong. "In", not meaning "not" but rather "capable of". Inefficient versus efficient doesn't mean "capable of being efficient" but rather "not efficient". You're right, it is weird, thanks for your corrections!

Re: Firefly Resources

It's one of those quirks of the language, isn't it?

And hey, I learnt a new word this week. "Anarthrous", which is "Lacking the definite article (the) in the Greek language". That doesn't quite top my number one favourite new word of last year, which was "Fiduciary", which essentially means "faith-based" (so a fiduciary statement would be "God does not exist", because you cannot prove he doesn't, so what you really mean is "I believe God does not exist"). This year is yet young and there are nearly twelve months still for a new word to top it. :-) But I'm threadjacking now! I'll stop!

Re: Firefly Resources

Many of us are no doubt using the official companion guides as... well, guides. And of course the role playing books. I recently bought Shepherd's Tale (I found out by coincidence that it was there) and Serenity, Better Days (same story). And again it is awesome stuff. Especially Shepherd's Tale since we finally find out about how he became a Shepherd and why he is known to the Alliance. A must-read for all the Firefly fans. And since we also learn about certain parts of the Alliance and Browncoats, you can also use it as a resource.

Re: Firefly Resources

Do people think this should be moved to the Cortex and GM info forum?

Re: Firefly Resources

Possibly. I'm sure Deborah will administrate accordingly when she's back from LOA. I understand her vision for the Cortex area to be specifically for GMs and for maintaining verisimilitude across the whole Firefly area (so Maczareck Security are one of the biggest security firms in the verse according to all our sims, and not unheard of in some, for example), whereas it may make sense to keep some more general resources more generally available. We'll see, though. We don't want the Cortex to be off-limits to non-GMs, after all, so maybe this stuff would be better placed there.

Re: Firefly Resources

Ah, good. Would it be a good idea for me to do an article on the "Big Four" security firms?

Re: Firefly Resources

Sounds fantastic, yeah.
