Topic: Kvant - Bridge

The bridge of Kvant, for want of a better word, was a small area with two seats and a large control console, which was actually a few specs above the norm for a Pride-class vessel.

The door to the bridge was currently locked; an Eagles Guard was standing by the door with an assault rifle in her hands and a pair of sunglasses that were more designed for coolness than light protection. She opened her mouth, revealing the gum inside.

"IDs please", she said.

"Just give me the gorram key (OOC: or code if it is a code lock) already I have had a long day."  Angel said as he approached the guard unmoved and un-phased by the armed woman.

Straightfaced, Quinn looked from Angel to the Eagles Guard and pulled out his ID badge, which dangled on a chain around his neck, and held it in front of the guard. Not a word, not yet, but he would have a few things to say to the crew once they had set a course and everyone had a moment. At this point it was better to play by the rules every step of the way. They were, after all, on a probationary period.

And besides, they had guests.

"Amelia Duquesne, I presume?" Quinn was hoping he was wrong, but it really didn't matter; she would be aboard his ship and he was already dreading having to kiss up to Maczarek's superstar. Showing her his ID badge was just phase 1.

Re: Kvant - Bridge

Quinn wasn't even close; the woman stared at him for a second.

She stood to attention, saluted and then pulled out her own pass after he had returned her salute.

"Guard Michelle Smith", she said, "I have been assigned to this vessel as security. Lieutenant Duquesne is in her cabin if you wish to speak to her. I would ask your comrade to show his identity pass before I grant him admission to the bridge; it is company policy not to allow admission to critical areas while on ground to those not explicitly authorised".

At that point the door to their right opened and a woman with short brown hair opened the door, wearing Maczarek Security battledress complete with webbing and a pistol in her holster. She had a mostly pretty face with a small nose and a cute smile. However, the top right side of her face was heavily scarred and she wore an eyepatch over her right eye, along with a hearing aid in her right ear.

Three years earlier, she'd been caught in an explosion, losing her sight in her right eye and suffering severe hearing damage in her right ear. However, she was still one of the best mercs in the business.

"Amelia Duquesne", she said in a distinct drawl, "Grabbing a free ride on your vessel. Ma boys and gals want to see me again and I wouldn't blame 'em. Now..."

She turned to Angel and glared at him with her good eye.

"Be a nice boy and show the woman your pass".

Quinn couldn't really be phased by his mistake. He always kept his mind on the job, and didn't pay attention to heros, whether they be popular bands or combatants. He saluted the guard and then turned his attention to the door opening to his right.

Noticing the severe damage, he knew how far off he was and for that matter could already tell who he was looking at. Quinn kept his straight face, not wanting to appear as though her scars stood out. Not that Amy might have cared, some people wore their scars with pride and she seemed the type, but these weren't times for drawing attention to anything, it was all business and Quinn wished to keep it that way.

He turned his attention to Angel and waited for him to show the guard his badge before speaking. Having a guard requiring ID to enter the bridge might be protocol, but when the guard wasn't one of his own men that was distrust. Worse, it was like training wheels, and they weren't new recruits. As CO, he needed there to be no mistaking who was in charge, and the salute from the guard was only slightly reassuring

OOC: Considering I've been writing Quinn's mentality as a bit negative to everyone except Maczarek and the crew, I just wanted to say that I'm not trying to build up a deep hatred for anybody or anything. When you get chewed out for something that wasn't really your fault and then asked to chaperon someone they know is better than you, I think a bit peeved is exactly how Quinn would feel right now. Although I did like the idea of Quinn having a personal dislike for Cowley, so that I will likely keep.  smile

Angel looked irritated as reached into his bag and pulled out his id, dropping the id on the floor as he did, "I am gonna find my room tell me when you are ready for me."

Angel said as he left the bridge to drop his stuff off at his room.

Angel

OOC oh dont worry i have been playing Angel the same way it is not this big of a pain he is just really annoyed atm.

Re: Kvant - Bridge

Smith picked up the pass and placed it in her pocket, then turned to type in the code for the door.

The computers on the bridge were currently installing an update; they would be done in five minutes.

Amelia took a glance inside the bridge then turned to Quinn.

"What's up with him?" she said, referring to Angel who had stormed off in a huff, "Somebody put too much water in his coffee?"

- GM

OOC: That's fine; you're entitled to feel annoyed. To be honest, Maczarek only just tolerates Cowley herself - the only reason she keeps him about because he'd be a real problem if he was working for a competitor.

Quinn looked at Amelia and then to the guard. "Everybody's pretty upset right now, and being welcomed by a surprise change in protocol isn't exactly my idea of a welcome home," he said implying the cause for Angel's frustration.

Addressing nobody in particular between Amelia and the guard, Quinn finally asked the question, "so what's going on here?" He gestured to the entryway to the bridge, referring to the military checkpoint placed in front of the door to the bridge of what should be his ship.

Re: Kvant - Bridge

"There has been a surprise change in protocol", Amelia replied, "When our ships are on the ground, the bridge is to have an armed guard at all times. Some cleaner we hired tried to make off with Regulus... Once you're in the black, you can do whatever you want with Ms Smith, provided it's legal and doesn't violate policy".

Quinn nodded. At least it was sound reasoning, and it didn't make them look bad. "Well my crew has been a bit edgy, so once we dust off," he looked to the guard, "I think stepping down the security presence might help keep tension low."

He then looked to Amelia again. "So what were you doing away from your unit, if you don't mind me asking?" Quinn folded his arms showing part of his current mentality: get his bearings, figure out what's going on, and then get on with the job.

Amelia rubbed her right arm.

"Fractured mah arm when some druggie pushed me over a stair rail during a raid", she said, "Been healing up since".

She leaned back against her door and reached into her pocket for some gum.

"Yes", Duquesne said, "I'd love to. Hope you've got a good cook".

Quinn saw a mechanic dressed in coveralls headed towards him with a digital pad and a stylus. He offered the stylus to the new CO.

"Could you sign here please, sir?" he asked, "Chain of custody and all that".

"One of the best," he said answering Amy's question.

Quinn turned his attention to the mechanic that showed up, and signed the pad quickly. "There you go," he said, "thanks." Quinn nodded in the direction of the bridge while looking at Amy. "Duty calls," he said grinning slightly and then stepping on deck.

Re: Kvant - Bridge

Once his co-pilot arrived, Quinn could start getting the ship going.

OOC: Feel free to NPC a co-pilot for the time being.

Re: Kvant - Bridge

Quinn looked over to the co-pilot and nodded before sitting down in the chair.

The two of them flicked a few switches and played with some dials until the ship came to life. Quinn grabbed the comm unit and clicked the button to the rest of the ship, "Crew, this is your Commanding Officer - I need everyone in their stations and I need an A-OK from Engineering before we take off."

The Co-Pilot looked over at Quinn. "It's gonna be another one of those days..."

~Quinn

OOC: I might give a thought to a picture for the Co-Pilot if nobody decides to fill in the position.

Re: Kvant - Bridge

The ground crew started to get clear of Kvant as the engines started up. The intercom chimed with the voice of Sarah Chu as she monitored the systems.

"Bridge, this is Engineering, all systems are in the green, we are running at 15%. Ready for take-off".

It was time to notify everyone to get to their jump seats in the mess.

Quinn nodded to the Co-Pilot who was now completing take-off preparations while Quinn spoke over the shipwide comm again. "Okay everybody, grab your jump seats. Take off in 1 minute."

Quinn looked over to the Co-Pilot, "You ever get sick of these?"

"Sick of what?"

"Take-offs."

The Co-Pilot flicked a few more switches, before responding, "Nah," a huge smile swept across the Co-Pilot's face, telling Quinn he still enjoyed them every bit as much as Quinn did.

Re: Kvant - Bridge

Angel could only walk a pace and half inside the bridge before he'd walk into a seat. Quinn and his co-pilot were making the final checks before take-off and were about to request clearance for departure.

OOC: Imagine the cockpit of Serenity; it's that sort of size.

Quinn saw Angel enter and nodded. He opened up the comm channel. "Port Authority, this is Kvant, we are preparing for lift off and are awaiting approval - please advise."

He flicked another couple of switches in preparation.

A reassuring female voice came over in reply.

"Kvant, this is Port Authority. You are cleared for lift off and atmospheric departure. Exit vector is zero-four-five true, elevation one-zero degrees until three-zero-kilo. Thank you for your visit and we hope to see you again".
