Topic: Bringing us home.

Just wondering if we have an official policy of how we are handling the archives of the temporary site. Will we tranfer them to the current boards, or just pick a place and move on. It would be nice to have the entire story in one place. A lot has happened since the diaspora. Anything I can do to help?

Re: Bringing us home.

Actually we were looking at having a discussion. In my own opinion though I think it's dependent entirely on what the COs/GMs would like to do for their own sims. I can speak for Kvant when I say that we don't have a need to transfer any of what was accomplished on the temp site as we were playing out a side-plot separate from the core plot we had running on the permanent site.

Re: Bringing us home.

I suspect it'd be possible to move the posts over and merge them into the database somehow, but I'd need to take a look at it. What software was the other forum running on?

phpBB. Not sure what version.

Euan, if you would like to sign up for the other forums, I can grant you administrative rights and you can take a look around if you like.

Re: Bringing us home.

I'll maybe do that sometime this week, then. If we can bring over the backlog of posts in the intervening time, that's an advantage.

Okay, just let me know when you have signed up and we'll get rolling on that right away!

Re: Bringing us home.

I'll hold off moving anything over until Euan reports back on the feasibility of this! If it's doable, that will save us all a ton of manual work.  big_smile

Re: Bringing us home.

I've started moving things manually from some threads, but we also need to check for missing posts on these forums first as there's little sense moving things from the temporary forum until we're confident we've got all the posts here that should be.

So my suggestion is that everyone check over their threads to make sure there aren't any posts from Spring missing (I'm thinking specifically SLs and Coordinators and Officers here and have emailed to that effect), then we can bring things from the temporary forum over. Obviously if Euan's able to do that with wizardry, all the better, but otherwise manual work won't take us too long if each Coordinator and SL or GM etc handles the threads they're responsible for or delegates to DSLs or the like.

Re: Bringing us home.

Not sure what you mean by "posts from Spring missing"?

We are missing a few weeks worth of posts, so Sims either need to post a summary or just ignore the lost posts.

Why does this preclude moving things over?

Re: Bringing us home.

Yeah, I mean the couple of weeks worth of posts from earlier this year that we lost when the site went down. So all I mean is SLs, GMs, or players need to recall what happened and summarise it as you say, then move posts from the temporary forum over where necessary, and then resume simming. I note with pleasure that a great many sims have already achieved all this, with others soon to follow.

Re: Bringing us home.

As far as I'm aware everyone has made the jump except "Odyssey", and that's only because Mischa has been LOA (as GM I defer to how the SO wants to handle the move).

I know for Repulse, I still need to do quite a bit of cleanup, but the pieces are in place and aren't blocking RP here.

Maybe I should check my email... wink

Re: Bringing us home.

That's my read of the situation, too, but I didn't want to name and shame Mischa because, like you say, he's LOA and can hardly have been expected to transfer. :-) I'm sure he'll handle it swiftly upon his return, and gladly too.

Re: Bringing us home.

I'm back with real life internet! I know, I can hardly believe it myself! Anyway, today I will be working on the transfer. Thanks everybody for their patience.
