Oh yeah, that's absolutely right. I think we want to encourage cross-sim encounters like this rather than deter SLs, GMs, and their players by making them think they'll be penalised for their community-building, verisimilitude-enhancing creativity! :-D

We should probably track the two together, Odyssey + Greenleaf Skyplex, instead of giving credit to one. Besides which, the idea is the two will be interacting - even if you tracked the two separately you should (ideally) see an increase in posting for both Odyssey and Greenleaf Skyplex because of the interactions, neither of which would reflect well on a decrease from the separation...
But if we track them together, we can just add last months postings for Odyssey and Greenleaf Skyplex to compare for the increase - from here we can't really attribute the change in posting to one sim particularly so I don't think we need to worry about trying to split them up. Let's just track them together and then combine last month's postings for them to compare.
In summary: assuming the two split at the end of April, I would say May should be compared to March, and April combined should be compared to March combined. We could also check May combined against April combined.

And it will skew Greenleaf's to look even higher. Although dividing amongst the number of active players should give us a good read on the situation. Odyssey should at least carry the average number to their record.

Well that's why I say we shouldn't track either Greenleaf or Odyssey, we should track the two together as a lump sum. Trying to track either individually won't make anything look good, other than the increase in posting due to the two sims interacting, but that's to be expected so that information won't really tell us anything new.
I think it's best to just count the two together, track the two together, and then draw comparisons for the two together and two months after they split we'll be back to our regular programming.

It will be encouraging to see an increased number of posts on Greenleaf above and beyond simply adding the Odyssey's usual number to Greenleaf's usual number. As you say, I'd hope to see increase from the synergy.

Statistically speaking we will see an exponential increase although how much of an increase has yet to be seen.

Thanks Si, can see the blog post now. Also, I'll add it to my list of things to do for the wiki, trying to capture that data in a wiki page may have me digging a bit deeper into the wiki code (although if I can just display the info in the docs via RSS or something, that would be stellar).

And Odyssey's engines are getting overhauled due to burnt valves, shot bearings and piston slap , OH yeah and a custom engine management system that is emp shielded

My sims are unchanged, I think:
The Elemental: 8
SGB-2: 5
Triple Zero: 6
The West Star: 7
Middle Earth: The Fourth Age: 6
RL, for example Amanda and Jason's LOAs will have affected The Ele, the Triple Zero, The West Star, and Middle Earth: The Fourth Age, but I have pretty widely suspended AWOL policies for other players in those sims, too, out of consideration for Amanda and Jason, so in part any drop off is my own fault for not being a harsher SL! :-)

The Odyssey currently officially has five players and one GM, although we are currently on Greenleaf where we will be picking up an additional one or two members. For that same reason the Odyssey sim seems inactive at the moment, because we are all having a jolly good time on Greenleaf Skyplex!

Hm, I was absolutely thrilled that D'ni pulled 3rd highest SSR but then it dawned on me as I examined the numbers...
It's GM+players.
So on that note, truly D'ni should fall at 18.5 for its SSR instead of 24.67
When I said "3 players" earlier, I wasn't counting myself as GM/SL since I'm not really a "player" in the sim. I have an NPC who may or may not play a significant role pending PC interactions and then I might count myself as a "player", though currently I don't have a character of my own that is intended for main storyline involvement.

On a further note...
If people would like, once we have captured some statistics, with my background in Math I can do some research off of those numbers to formulate some risk-ratings to give us a better idea for how sims are doing? Before you say yes or no, my thoughts are that we can make a case for sims with fewer members to be stronger than sims with more members and vice-versa and the same can be said for number of posts, age of the sim, etc., though an evaluation that sums up everything in a way that is more comprehensive might be in order - and that's what I'm suggesting. Possibly both a Risk rating and a Confidence rating (Confidence for how strong the Risk rating is).
I'm open to suggestions on what to look for and what we want to show, but I am volunteering to take on the project.

But I'd like to look at trends in the data to see if I can get an idea how consistent the posting has been and will be (the higher the consistency the lower the risk rating on the sim).
Once I have a feel from the monthly SSR's where the consistency lies, I may go more in-depth if the data seems too weak to properly conclude anything (which I'm predicting from the fact that we have a small sample space of SSR's to rely on that that will be the case, but at the very least it will be the start of a more long-term statistical analysis). This could involve going through each IC thread and entering the exact data for the number of posts in a week (or maybe even go so far as days) for more accuracy. It may also do to look at how many players posted on a given week (or day) to get an idea how consistent the players are with their postings and examine that whole aspect too.
