Topic: Quick question on nominations

Thank you Aidan for nominating me for SL/ASL of the year, but is it possible to decline a nomination? I just don't think I've excelled as a sim leader, especially compared to the other nominees. Genuinely, it has been my ASLs, GMs, and players making my sims so enjoyable this last year, and I've kind of just been along for the ride. I hope to be a better SL this coming year, but I shouldn't be listed as an exemplary one in these awards.

Re: Quick question on nominations

You'd have to ask the committee that, but I feel that you should get an award just for humility.

Hah! :-) Kind of you, but it's not humility, I'm being honest. :-)

Jason, could you and the other committee members consider my question and let us know?

Re: Quick question on nominations

Keeping it all in one thread, I'll follow up and ask about my own nomination for SL/ASL of the Year - not actually being an SL or ASL, I suspect I might just fail to be eligible for this one? Though scrolling back, I see I was nominated for it by Kevin Diamond on the grounds of technical stuff and he wasn't sure what category to say ("for getting us back up and running, among a jillion technical things. This is more a governmental accomplishment nomination, but I have no where else to put it."), and similarly Amanda Bond nominated me for Player of the Year on the same grounds. So...I'm not sure what the committee wish to make on that. Obviously, everyone is eligible for PotY, but I don't think I'm technically allowed to be SL/ASLotY.

Re: Quick question on nominations

No, you can't decline a nomination. Sorry Ash, you just have to be nominated. The committee will take into account things like what you've mentioned, however.

As for Euan not even being eligible, it is quite correct that nominations based on "doesn't fit this category but no where else to put it" aren't really nominations at all. This is what the GC award is supposed to be about (recognizing achievement outside of the roleplaying or individual sim). However, if the membership wants an additional award (perhaps an "officer" award, for those holding some appointed/elected office that people feel have done an outstanding job in what they do - although my personal opinion is that should be a given... strive your best in the roles given to you).

Thus, i will strike Euan from the SL/ASL nomination, but of course leave him for PotY (the reasoning behind the nomination isn't enough to discount him from having the chance to receive the award, unless he didn't have any characters he was playing either).

Alright, Jason, thanks for your ruling.

Re: Quick question on nominations

Shiny, thanks Jason. I didn't think there was any chance I'd win SL/ASL of the Year, considering the outstanding collection of people in the running for that award, but thought it only proper to make the point.

Thank you for your honesty and integrity, and for bringing it to my attention.

When should we hear the results?

Re: Quick question on nominations

When the chair gets off his rump and starts the discussion with the committee. Sorry, I've been a bit distracted recently. I'll start the conversation immediately.

Re: Quick question on nominations

Hey Euan, would it be possible to set up a thread that only the Awards committee can see for easier discussion?

Re: Quick question on nominations

If I add an awards committee group, yes, though not sure if that's an option on our current software. I'll have a look, but who is the committee as it stands? Just for reference.

Re: Quick question on nominations

Myself, Kevin (Zuzutoo), and Amanda Bond.

Now you all know who to bribe. smile

Any progress on this, Euan? If it's not possible, I understand.

Re: Quick question on nominations

Yes, please do prioritise setting this up for the committee if it is a possibility.

Re: Quick question on nominations

I would like to get the Awards settled on before the end of the year, that's for sure. wink

Right now with Amanda being somewhat LOA, things aren't moving as fast but once she is fully back I hope to move on this quickly. I think having a forum thread set up to do that would be easier than PMs.

Re: Quick question on nominations

Ack! Sorry, being LOA I've not had time to look in here. Unfortunately, with the current system, there's no option for one user having multiple groups hmm All I can really suggest is email or PMs, as it stands, but if I get some free time in the near future I'll see if I can find a way to code something for multiple groups. It'll certainly go down on the "things Phoenix 2.0 must have" list.
